I know the RSVR isn't a drag bike. I was just thinking that since very few of us live near the same race track it might be fun to get some quarter mile times from people. In most cases the weekend drags are pretty cheap, $8.00 for a night here in Hawaii, and a 1/4 mile is a 1/4 mile. I know, elevation and track conditions may make a difference. I do it because I can't often make track days in Hawaii and it gives me a chance to work on my starts and do something with my girlfriend.

So, to get the ball rolling here are my times on my completely stock 04 Factory.

11.5
11.4
11.3

I did three runs and those are the times I got. I don't have the slips with me and I cannot remember what my 60 foot, 1/8 mile, reaction time, and top speed were. I haven't had a chance to go back since my flapper mod was completed, I'll go when I get home in a couple weeks.

My girlfriend runs high 9's on her lowered but otherwise stock 05 BUSA. It's getting stretched, gearing, and a couple other items while I am gone, I'll post her new times also when I get home.

You've got girlfriend that rides a 'busa and turns in 9 second qtrs?

Does she have a sister?

I did 2 runs for the fun of it and managed 12.1, with pathetic launches. I'm at 1700m ASL and I'm 100kg :crybaby:

Clarkie did pass on a tip: Launch with 2nd gear at about 6k RPM. I have practised this leaving lights on the way to work... but I still haven't mastered it :pissed:

I'll stick with the Busa for the Strip and the Mille for the track

2nd gear at 6k, is that for Clarkie's bike or a stock bike?

What are your times on the Busa? If I remember right Jenn got a 9.98 on her fifth pass, bike is lowered but otherwise 100% stock. 'Course she only weighs 125 lbs.

I weigh in at about 210 lbs

I ran my '02 just for fun and my best time out of 5 runs 11.3 @ 126 MPH. That was completely stock but derestricted. I've been tempted to go back with the full exhaust and other things I've done since, but I was kind of discouraged after the last time. This bike definitely isn't a drag bike, but I was hoping to at least get into the 10s.

I wouldn't be too discouraged. 95% of the riders on the road today don't have a clue how to properly drag launch a bike. Most of your time is probably being lost right at the light through to 60ft.

Dale Walker has some really good vids on technique that helped me a lot. Spending a season working just my launch helped me shave off time until I nailed my fastest run of 8:33 on my Kawasaki KZ1000. I then rode it home. *cough*

By the way anyone see that Gadson ran an 05 R6 for 9.98 with nothing but lowering straps?

I actually feel a little better after seeing Uberchicken ran the same time on his '04 factory. :cathat:

I'm definitly not a drag racer and I didn't change my setup on the bike at all from my everyday street setup. I had a lot of trouble launching the thing and had to fight the wheelies and/or wheelspin. I had only drag raced a handful of times before. But I ran faster times on my '00 ZX7R.

I know that the mags. might have some good drivers but they are getting mid to low 10s on the '04s in stock shape. Most of us can't and it has to do with launch times. I watched the stock and not so stock bikes at the strip yesterday and VERY few launched with any more then crank on the gas when the light hit. And that don't get it. There was some fast shit there and some fast stock stuff but the drivers made all the differance. By the way Gorf, you got to be a bad ass driver too. And that bike HAS to have nitrous and a turbo to make enough power to do that time. About 185 mph or more I would guess too. There was a 'Busa, nitrous, turbo, wheelie bars and a slick that did 8.55 at 188 mph and that guy came off the line like a slot car.

I suspect that the Mille's probably have launch RPM's of about 4K? I am guessing here because of the torque. My experience is the more the torque, the lower your launch rpm.

Anyone have an opinion?

I'm thinking that after seeing what you can do on the Kaw that we should be asking you. But my opinion would be this. I normal take off at about 4 grand and then get on it when the clutch gets full grip but that is just street driving. If I was to run the strip I would hold the gas at about 7,500 then start sliding the clutch just enough to keep the engine at that power band but keeping the front wheel from coming up. As soon as the clutch is in full engagement and the engine hits 9,500 shift the sucker. After that keep shifting at 9.5 till the end but keep leaning on the front to keep the wheel down. I'm guessing this because it keeps the engine between the max torque and max HP all the time. Experiment with your shift points till you get your best times. I've only done this on the street and I can keep the front wheel just skimming over the ground. This might not work for you so do it at your own risk.

It was just his recommendation. If I remember correctly, he used this technique for the track racing as well. Hopefully he will let us know soon.

Jenn got excellent times. I think the best I ever managed was a 10.3, but I didn't race much, so I have very little experience. Launches are by biggest downfall and I don't practise enough

I think Ricky's best time here was 8.9 with a hot ZX12 with nitrous (or was it the turbo???). The altitude is a killer for NA motors :pissed:

Just read an ausi car mag today where they had the new 997 Porsche turbo lined up against the k5 gixxer - both standing quarter (proper drag strip) and a around race track.

Porsche did 11.99 sec, gixxer was 11.5ish (i cant recall exact but within +/- .2)

Off topic, but the gixxer cleaned up on the track but only by about a sec ... tightish track so suited the car.

But the car journo's were stunned at the bikes ability to hit "hyper speed".

Sorry to say but.... 11.5 on a K5 gsxr 1000 is SLOW!! I did 11.3 on my Factory and it was bone stock. I don't have a lot of drag racing experience and I hit 11.3 on only three runs. I've got a friend who was pulling 9.9 on a 2" lowered but otherwise stock zx-10, but then again he is a bit crazy and they do call him "The Natural One" when it comes to drag racing.

I'll make some more runs this weekend with my new mods, Evo airbox, Akro slip-ons, map 2, gutted and smoothed intake, and PCIII if all goes well.

Has anyone else had any more times to post?

Hey Grumpyduck - your times won't count if you fix those go-faster CDs over the headlights! :p:

Just joined the dark side - I had the red and black Falco at the clubaprilia Brands track day, but I've just traded it in for an '05 Factory. Now I just need to find some CDs for the front! ;)

Okay, my best run on the stock factory was 11.3.

With akro slip-ons, evo airbox, smoothed intake, and updated ECU map I ran consistent 11.1s

Also, I ran a 1000rr on my last run. He has an akro slip-on, 520 conversion with plus three on the rear sprocket and a PC. The guy does some track riding and we had comparable 60 foot times. He beat me by .1 seconds. I was pretty proud of the old Priller, that much less HP, he had gearing and they were pretty close on the top.

On another note, there was a guy on a K5 GSXR 1000. ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!!!! The guy was slow as sh#t off the line, 2.2 60 foot (I'm running 1.8-2.0) and he ran 10.2s!!!!!!! WHAT A MOTOR!!!

I need a road course/track day!!

Aloha,
Mike

P.S. For those of you who saw it in the other forum, I saw the "what $8000 can do" Mille tonight. Still not my cup of tea, nice BST wheels though.

If you're running that consistant, you should consider racing Pro ET.

Those GSXR's ARE amazing! The Mille's torque is kicking ass down low there at 260 feet, but that ridiculous horse power is the king!
My buddy who also has a K5 1000, made a trip to the dragstrip for the first time in 20 years. He ran a 10.5 @ 147MPH, first run, then they wouldn't let him run anymore because you have to have full leathers over 140 MPH!

No sorry to say but I just got the reverse shifter on and the season is pretty much over here. It just got really cold. Unless an unforseen warm spell comes by I'll have to wait till next year.

I know this an old post but I love drag times so here is mine.
04 Factory witt TI pipes, air box and 520 chain.
I ran consistant 10.9's running between 127 mile - 130 mile an hour.
I reckon with a better launch and maybe PC3 tuned I could run 10.7 or better.
We will see...............

I have not however I have ran my bike at the track and seen others run with inline 4 1000cc's. Its not an accurate comparison. They will bet an ape because they have more horsepower and are lighter. HOWEVER it should be noted that off of the line an Ape will beat them. Its a short lived victory as they will pass you once they hit their power band. I know at about 5000+ feet altitude that I was running an 11.9. The Jap bikes were about a second quicker at about 10.8 to 11.3 depending on bike and driver. I think I could drop a tenth of a second if I could nail my launches AND reaction times consistently. Hope this makes sense.

Some other thoughts.... You should note that mine is not a 04 to 07 model. It is the 01.

secondly, if you want to know why so many would be willing to be beaten by a gixxer or R1.... here is why.

Well I dont have alot of curvy roads where i live so all i can do is drag race. I have not officially taken the Aprilia to the track and draged it but unoffical time on it is 10.9, and thats just me and a friend measuring out the distance and timing with a stop watch. On my CBR 1000RR i ran a 10.1, i would suspect that i can run this Factory at about 11 or just under on an actuall drag track.

Did consistant 11.4 , three runs in a row, and each time my start and reaction SUCKED...
Should be easy to improve, at the start though.
for instance, I tried to start in way to low rpm.

Hey all,
Ran my bike the other night at Calder Park Raceway and had made a little progress on my last time. Last time I ran 10.9's on my Factory with the slip-on TI mufflers. This time I went with the full Akro system.
Bugger all improvement I must say..........
I ran 10.852 @ 129.16 mph.
I have to admit that there was a bit of a head wind so maybe a 10.7 is on the cards, who knows.
Pics to follow.

Top speed: 178.8mph showing 188 on clock.
