The Alice Aprilia team began a two-day test at Valencia yesterday under difficult conditions, with damp windy weather combining with the rubber put down by recent F1 tests to create a truly slippery surface.

Although the conditions improved in the afternoon, allowing both Colin Edwards and Noriyuki Haga to clock up around 70 laps each, their best times were some way off lap record pace as they tip-towed around the circuit.

Nevertheless, both riders remain optimistic of setting much better times today, weather permitting, which would allow them to compare the RS Cube to the pace of Yamaha's M1 that set a best lap of 1min 32.8secs in the hands of Alex Barros at the same circuit recently.

Also testing yesterday were Aprilia's 250cc riders, with Randy de Puniet setting the pace with a 1min 37.7secs effort, while new MS factory rider Manuel Poggiali set a 1min 38.4secs best circulation.

Colin is hopeful for this coming year on the 'Priller. He speaks highly of the bike and his teams ability to make proper changes on his site. I can't wait for the season to start. Too bad SBK is coing to be a Ducati show. Oh well, I guess we cant have EVERYTHING...

that's pretty sweet if he's only off 2 seconds from last years pole and it was wet and windy.....

according to Motogp.com Colin ran a 1:32:2 which is only .4 seconds slower than Biaggi's recent Yamaha test there and was equal to the fastest lap from last years race.....yay!:p

Again, from crash.net

"Colin Edwards today proved he has the speed to back up his podium predictions by matching the pole pace at the season ending Valencia Grand Prix.

The Texan put in a morale boosting best lap of 1min 33.2secs, 1.28secs faster than Regis Laconi had managed three months ago, in qualifying trim, while riding the previous version of the RS Cube.

Adding to the growing potential of the Edwards/Aprilia combination is that the double World Superbike champion was riding on a still slippery surface, and set his best time on the way to recording 91 laps around the Spanish circuit - equivalent to over three Grand Prix distances.

Edwards' pace also compares well with the fastest lap of recent times, by Yamaha star Alex Barros, of 1min 32.8secs - an all time circuit record.

Team-mate Nori 'Nitro' Haga can also be pleased with his own performance, getting as he did to within 0.3secs of his team-mate as he readjusts to Michelin tyres. Haga completed 86 laps today.

Also at the test were Aprilias other GP riders, with new factory pilot Manuel Poggiali setting the pace in the 250c as he thumped 2.4secs off his best lap of yesterday with a 1min 36.0secs outing, just over 0.1secs slower than Marco Melandri's November pole time.

In the 125s, veteran Youichi Ui led the way with a 1min 40.2secs effort, however that time is 0.8secs off Dani Pedrosa's pole pace set on a Honda.

Edwards, Haga and the Aprilia team now have 15 days to develop the Cosworth powered machine further before confronting their rivals in Jerez on February 21.
