View Full Version : Get rid of SBK...

I was reading Mat Oxley's regular column in Performance bikes mag (march issue) and he makes a good point about superbike racing. Basically what will be the point of watching tuned road version of Gp bikes (once the technology filters through to road bikes) when you can watch the proper things race! He suggests that Supers get totally changed and use naked bikes, the big muscle bikes like the suzuki GSX1400, Honda CB1300, Yam XJR1300 and so on running straight through mega-phone exhausts. I for 1 one think this would be more entertaining then the Ducati Cup its turning into...

already happened -- GSXR1000 runing in SBK --strange but its in there -

Keep it. It will come back. Honda and Kawasaki have new liter bikes coming out next year. Aprilia will be back in too when the produce a Cube for the streets.

Yeah but thats the whole point why watch a road version of the cube race when you can watch the real thing race in GP...

I love SBK....it'll stay around for sure......the manufacturers will always have some kind of racing where they can showcase their road bikes. The Japanese manufacturers are just taking a year off....next year should be quite good again.

For me the highlight of this years SBK is the Foggy-Petronas thing....I kinda want to buy one for some reason....maybe the flame throwers....

I would rather watch big bore naked bikes, that would be visually way more entertaining.

Yeah the Foggy petronas is sweet just a shame its got Foogy's name attached to it!!!

You could just imagine the naked's, unsilenced pipes, big wide bars, power sliding out of corners...

The power sliding was the part I thought to be visually most exciting.

I'd like to see them race big street bikes but with pillions on the back! how entertaining would that be??? I agree Superbikes are pretty dull now, but dont forget that Steve Hislop lapped Donington Park on his 998 quicker than any GP rider so the talent is still there, and that was on a year old F spec Ducati.

It is just depressing to see so few different bikes out there. It may not actually be the Ducati cup but it is close.

They need Sidecar racing with Grid starts.

Now THAT would rock!

It would be great if they televised the national series. I've never ridden anything other than streetbikes, but the pictures I've seen of this type of racing makes me want to get into it!

If WSB is the Ducati cup, wouldn't that make the AMA series a Suzuki cup?? How many years now have the AMA grids been 2/3's GSXR's?

I hope we get more technology from the GP bikes than what Honda has given us. That exhaust pipe under the seat of the 600? Aprilia did that on the Futura and didn't need to spend millions on development first. The swingarm/shock mount is different on the Honda 600 but the Kawasaki won the first shoot-out that I have read. As far as I am concerned WSB has given me all I could ever want in a street bike. When Honda gives us a V-5 and Aprilia gives us a triple I'll change my mind.
