View Full Version : 70cc Scarabeo engine problems

I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice on a couple of issues. I have a Scarabeo with the 70cc Polini Corsa cylinder installed. I have hardly used the scooter over the winter months, and changed out the spark plug to see if it would help, but had no change.

1) Idling problem -- The scooter starts fine and runs fine (except for my next issue) but won't hold idle RPM once the engine is warm. If I come to a stop, the engine idles correctly for 10-15 seconds and then gradually slows until it stalls. If I give it a little throttle it will keep running. I have the idle adjusted so that it runs pretty fast when the engine is cold on startup. In fact, the rear wheel will spin some until the engine warms up a little. Can I fix this by just turning up the idle more? Is it normal to be engaging the clutch during warm up?

2) Throttle problem -- When the choke is turned all the way to the inside the throttle does not always work. It is almost like the carb is just not opening. If I turn the choke just a little to the outside the problem goes away. I have no idea what this one means.

I'm getting good performance from the larger cylinder, but the idling problem is very annoying and the other problem just worries me a little.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Outside is the way you turn the choke for a cold start. Inside is where you turn it once it warms up. I couldn't remember which one was open or closed. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o">

with bigger 70cc kit it will have more sihgnal to the carbs fuel circuits so you must lean her down a bit, on the air mixture screw turn it out 540 to 720 degrees from full turn in. you may be running very rich at idle to part throttle so adjusting the air screw might do the trick.

what color is the plug tip?

The old plug was a medium reddish brown color. When I added the kit I went to a larger main jet and removed the snorkel from the air box. I'll try running a little leaner and see what affect it has. Is there a good reference anywhere for adjusting the stock carb?

Swing bye anytime and I will look at it. You are in Austin correct?

I think I'll do that. I didn't realize you guys had opened your own place. Looks like it is a lot easier for me to get to than Mototek. I'm going out of town this weekend, but may be able to get there the next Saturday. I'll give you a call next week.

No problem....yes we are easy to get to via scooter, no need to venture farther than 183 and Lamar.
