View Full Version : Small panel on engine - What is it???

02-14-2005, 03:31 AM
I noticed a smaal 2x3" panel on the bottom of the engine, I undid the bolts and a small amount of black oil came out, is this gearbox oil because I will take it off and let all the oil out if so as I'm giving it an oil change at the moment anyway. Or is it something else I'm a complete beginner on the rs250 just wanted to make sure before I do something!

Thanks for any help.

sounds like the powervalve cover..?
was it four bolts?
if you find another on the other cylinder, its just that.

if so, not gearbox oil, just unburned 2t oil and other exhaust crap.
just clean it out :)

Edit: found a pic, is it the cover in the top of the picture?

just gets clogged up with crap, you need to get out all the oil and carbon deposits, i was going to strip mine but the bolts were stuck so i just took covers off and used some engine degreaser and a brush. apparently oven cleaner works well on stuck on carbon though, so there you go!

just post here or give me a shout if theres any further things you wonder, no doubt they will be the things i had to find out about too :)
