The Melbourne group's Inaugural Club Aprilia Alpine Tour has drawn to a close, it certainly was an eventful trip with lots of stories to be told.

In short, Trevor, Shane and I had a fantastic time covering just under 2000km's in 3 days, and importantly, we all got back home safely. Tony did not have a great trip, see the note below about Turn 2 on the Granya Gap. He and the bike are ok, but a broken front brake lever ended his trip.

We could not have asked for better weather, not a drop of rain and
clear blue skies for most of Saturday and Sunday's riding. If we had
of gone ahead the weekend before as initially planned, we would have
encountered 2 inches of snow as we crossed over Thredbo and Hotham.
The weather gods were on our side.

While there was snow in the distance and the temperature was close to
freezing as we climbed over Hotham today, the roads were snow and
litter free and we had an awesome time.

The highlights? Well there were many. The awesome breakfast in
Mansfield followed by the Mansfield -> Whitfield Rd, the sweepers on
the Real Murray Valley Hwy, the run up and over the top of Australia
from Tumut to Adaminaby, the Alpine Way from Tumut to Khancobhan (what
a road!), the hospitality of Alf and Maiya at the famous Tintaldra
pub, giving the locals a run for their money on the pool table at the
Tawonga pub, and of course 'the' highlight, the Great Alpine Rd from
Mt Hotham down to Bruthen, one of the best motorcycling roads on offer!

The lowlights? There were not many. The trip did not get off to a good start with yours trually getting pulled over by a copper and given a verbal warning for (and can you beleive this), not keeping to the speed limit! I was sitting behind him, then backed off to let the guys behind re-group. Apparently that is dangerous! Turn 2 on Granya Gap, where Tony had an off-road experience, and the long commute home from Stratford ... next time we will do the route in a anti-clockwise direction so we start with the commute.

For those interested, our route was as follows:

Day 1: Mill Park, Whittlesea, Yea, Mansfield, Whitfield, Beechworth, Tallangatta, Granya, Jingellic, Batlow, Tumut

Day 2: Tumut, Kiandra, Adaminaby, Berridale, Jindabyne, Thredbo, Khancobhan, Tintaldra, Tallangatta, Lockhart Gap, Tawonga

Day 3: Tawonga, Harrietville, Mt Hotham, Omeo, Bruthen, Stratford, Melbourne

We are looking to repeat this early in the new year.
