Ok, I've got countless hours of work in this design, so please go easy on me. I think I came up with a good first design. Personally, I like them a lot.

<span style="text-decoration:underline"><strong>Do me a big favor and respect that this my work. Don't try to take these and have them printed else where. The gauges will be for sale through AF1 Racing for a very reasonable price.</strong></span>

If there is no objection to the current design, I'll look into getting these printed ASAP.

The picture below is exactly how the gauges will look. The size of the tach, speedo and temp as they appear together is all proportional.

<img src="http://www.roostzone.com/images/gaugedisplay.gif" style="border:0;"/>

Here are the old gauges for reference.

<img src="http://www.roostzone.com/images/oldgauges.gif" style="border:0;"/>

<a href="http://www.roostzone.com/images/oldgauges.gif" target="top">Link to photo of old gauges on my website</a>

The circles and squares outlined in the centers are the locations of the face screws and openings for the odometer and tripometer.

Ohh 1 problem on the trip is that the european bikes are in KM's so if we could just have odo and trip it would be spot on... also would i be able to distribute in these to at all? (to the uk lads) or do i just see micah about em?

*EDIT* btw - are these just stick on vynal? or are you having new clocks machined, also i suggest you copy right or some form of protect them as u will prolly get someone (not a person a manufacturer) trying to 'rip' your ideas/hard work when they see it... there spot on awsome job ben!!!!! *BRAVO*

I can't really copywrite them because I'm using the Aprilia name and Lion logo.

I'm just asking for everyone here to respect my work. I can't stop big time manufacturers.

Craig, I'm sure we can work out something for distribution in the UK through you. I'm sure Micah won't mind.

I'll change the "MILES" to "ODO" so it matches both sides of the pond.

Reality is the gauges are simply a very thin piece of sheet metal. The temp face is actually plastic. These will be printed on vinyl, but the backing on the vinyl will be sufficient thickness to allow you two options for application. 1) peel and stick. 2) do not remove the backing ont the vinyl, poke holes through the appropriate mounting points, and simply use something no so permanent (like two-side tape) and the screws to hold it in place. Once you sandwhich it between the stock gauge face, the difuser ring, and the glass cover, it isn't going anywhere.

Wicked!!!!!!!!! Do you know how much they will be roughly. also you should do them in many other different colours.

armourbl
05-24-2003, 06:00 PM
Nope, one color. Production for multiple colors is too much $$.

I don't know what they will cost, but I'm doing my best to keep it very reasonable, which means as cheap as I can to you. Some of that will depend on how many I do in the first run. The more I can do, the cheaper they get.

Just a suggestion... How about adding "Min" and "Max" on the temp face like the stock gauge. I feel that it looks too plain without the writing and would blend in better with the other two gauges if they were to be added. Ofcourse this is just my opinion.
Great work on the gauges!

Yeah, the temp gauge is kind of plain, but I toyed with it for hours and simple just look better in the end. The MIN MAX thing seems kind of redundant to me. The colors tell you enough.

I think everything will look pretty good when mounted in the gauges.

armourbl

Well, I haven't really worked out any kind of exclusive deal with anyone. I guess I could play the wholesaler role and let all of you guys distribute.

I'll be able to get to the printer probably on Tuesday and get an idea of what the cost will be per set. Reason I have to wait is this weekend is a national holiday and just about everyone is closed.

Any idea how many (Sand and Craig) would want for an initial shipment?

dunno well have to set up a post for a list for ...

AF1 Racing (us & other places)
CMP Racing (UK & parts of europe if wanted) SandbergMotors (denmark etc...)

To see a general amount needed...also for me i would require someform of downpayment/agreement that u will take it when i got em... i dont wanna be stuck with like 10 sets ppl said they would have then not take em... still have 1 choke kit left :D (im sure this is the same for Johan & Micah 'n' Ed)

I'll get the proto type mounted up probably by next weekend and post a photo.

I'll know this week how much they are going to cost.

Craig we can talk off forum about money and stuff.

I was hoping to see Micah and Ed chime in here. Any comments guys.

Absolutely awesome Ben! That is the trickest set of guages out there dude. I have been in the back of the shop for most of last week and am currently in Houston, Texas.....so I have not been online much. I will be back in the saddle tomorrow. Give me a call on Tuesday to set this up I will buy a bunch because this is going to be red-hot dude! I love the way the redline starts in small red and grows out 14K....so sweet, you are an artist!

the only thing i see wrong is the speedo goes up to 90 while the speedo "pegs" out at where 80 would be. not much use having 90 on there if you'll never get past an indicated 80.

looks good to me i want a set if they are not that pricey.

armourbl
05-26-2003, 07:08 PM
Well, most sportbikes have speedos that indicate a number higher than what can actually be acheived.

They will be pre-cut, with full color instructions on how to install them.

So u think u coul shape those ideas onto rs125 dials. the market for them would grow very quickly specially over in the uk where we all have the 125's let us know

Josh

I would definitely buy these!!!

very good looking ben!!!!

I could easily do the 125 gauges, or any other gauges. The biggest issue to deal with is whether or not the gauges are backlit or not.

Backlit means the gauge face is designed to allow light to pass through certain portions of the gauge to light it at night. For example, the gauges on my VFR are backlit and only the numbers glow at night.

The RS50 is light from the front of the gauge via a defuser that transmitts the light evenly around the entire face of the gauge. This defuser sits between the glass and the face, creating a space for the light to broadcast.

If you really want me to design some RS125 gauges I'm going to need someone to volunteer some of their time, and their gauges. I need someone to dismantle their gauges, and scan them into digital format. A .bmp format would work best. The image would need to be high resolution and scanned at actual size. This gives me the base to work from and a gauging reference point for the indicators.

Any volunteers. The volunteer would of course get his set of new gauge faces for free!!! :D

I dont know how many i would be taking at first, cuz i donīt wonna be stuck with any, like craig said, but iīm pretty sure i could sell a set to allmost every rs here in denmark if i get a set on my own bike first so they could see them.

Just wanted you know that there is progress on these.

any word on the status of theese things and / or prices?

armourbl
07-07-2003, 05:44 PM
We can't really begin to advertise the price or the availability because we haven't actually received the final product from the printer.

Point is, I could promise they'd be ready by the end of the week, but then the printer could have some kind of hold up. I don't want to get anyone excited prematurely.

After I get them back, I need to complete the installation instructions, which will take a few more days. I have them half done at the moment, but I need some more picks of it going back together.

I'm doing my best to bring everyone a top quality product with awesome installation instructions at a great price.

I have agreed to allow Micah to distribute these. Payment terms are up to him.

I'm probably given out more information than I should. I would just wait for Micah to announce the availability.
