View Full Version : RSV4 valvetrain: pretensioned gearwheel camshaft

Dear all,

I'm owning a MXV but currently I'm interested in the pretensioned gearwheel on the outlet camshaft of the RSV4 (number 1 in the picture below).
I know the purpose and can guess how it looks inside. Has somebody some pictures for me to get a better insight in it's function? Also disassembled pictures would be nice to see how the two halfes of the wheel are pretensioned against eachother by the springs.

Many thanks in advance,

It’s done simply to reduce rocking noise and gear whine. Simple springs (strong) loaded split gear design.

Hi Micah,

thanks for the quick reply and confirming my opinion regarding the purpose of the system. Would you be able to send some pictures of the real parts?

Best regards,

You do realise this concept has been around for a while, Honda VFR 750 from 1986 had similar design in regards to split pretensioned gear drive.

here is a pic of the RSV4 for you.

Hi Plocky,

I know this concept being not new. I am in no Honda forum and have a very good opinion of this forum, so I asked the question here ;-)
@Micah: thanks a lot!

As promised here is the split gear as viewed from the anti lash side showing springs pretty good.
