Most seem to have a preference for the weekend of the 4th only nerald has work ( night shift ) that weekend so I think it's only right we leave dates till after the scotland trip as the two people with the info on best roads up that way are (nerald & globleone) I will go and look into a pub for sataday meal and local b&b and report back

I've just spoke to Paul the bloke that runs Takoda camping just outside kerkby Stephens (ca 174ap) and he has said we can say there it's 8 per night no elec for your heaters though but there is a common room with tables and chairs for up to 48 people with sockets and free wifi there are 3 pubs in the town but he is happy to let us get a meal deliverd and use the room for the night I will call up on my way to Scotland to scope out the pubs and camp

mawse
05-13-2015, 09:16 AM
Stayed at Takoda several times. Great spot with great facilities. The common room is heated and as said it has leccy for phone charging and the like. Last time i was there it also had a cd player!!

The pubs in town are about a 5 to 10 min walk away. Cant remember the name, but the first one on the right has always been my choice. Think its the White Lion (or Horse). There is a coop on the way into town for supplies.

Hope that helps

as you may be aware, and i am sorry (if you hate them) i have a caravan to take my sons camping in. anyway i look at a useful forum for camping and caravanning that has reviews of various camp sites.

heres what it says about Takoda....

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=10442

...looks like a good review actually....the review for Carrog station was not actually all positive, although they were quite good to us. only thing i would say about carrog is that a bucket of magnolia paint doesn't cost much and would make the shower and toilet block a lot more appealing than bare brease blocks there now.

Lets get this stickied. I would be looking to stay in the bunkhouse Friday night but won't get there until about 20:00 as I don't finish work until 18:00. I will do the ride out Saturday but will need to drop out at some point because I have work at 17:30 on the Saturday night. I don't mind this as the following weekend (11th) i may be nipping somewhere warm so probably would have had to give it a miss. I don't mind planning the ride out (or being part of it), but with Greece and Nordkapp looming I would not be able to sort out the camping/lodging arrangements so someone else would need to take care of that.

Google the Fred Whitton cycle race if you need more info Link (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Fred+Whitton+Cycle)

Alston to Keswick 30 miles Via Hartside round the Fred then Back
Fred is 120 miles
3800m Ascent

It's a truly beautiful ride through some of the most spectacular scenery the Lake District has to offer - As well as being a tough route, it is undoubtedly one of the most scenic to be had on predominantly quiet roads taking in all the Lake Districts major passes (Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott and Wrynose), with a lot of very lumpy stuff in between that doesn't seem to get a mention

Well lads, just weighing this up. Just thinking out loud here, as I see it

Belfast to Stranraer leaving Friday 4th 11:30 am
arriving 13:52,
3 hr ride and 157 miles to the site should have me drinking a beer by my tent by six, groovy.

Up out of the sack, lay an egg, the three S's and on the road for 07:30 am (a balls) for the 11:30am ferry to Belfast.
Arrive Belfast 13:52 and 234 miles to home.

All told incl spin that's at least 1200 miles and at mid 40mpg were looking at 180ish quid on juice, never mind the 150 odd on ferry and the 100 ill inevitably blow on boozery and grub etc.........which means eh not fuggin likely lol.

Seeyas on the next one and have a goodun!!

This weekend looks to be shaping up well. After switching back to semi-synth 10-40 oil my Capo is starting to run like a normal bike again so I can try some distances. A trip oop-Nord on the 4th Sept would be fair compensation for being too poor to ride up to Norway too. Put me down if you like and I'll duly reimburse,

Andy Hardknott and Wrynose passes are just off the route adding those in plus say Honister or Whinlatter (to make it a round trip) will probably add 2-3 hours onto the ride. Kirkstone pass is partially on the route posted above and is possibly the better bike road. Routes can be sorted out Friday and altered depending on the weather.

What kind of bedding is there in the bunkhouse? Do we need Sleeping Bag & Pillows?

I believe from reading their literature that pillows and duvets supplied, towels required

Sun is shining in Cumbria and it's forecast for a lovely day, in fact the weekend forecast is great, it will get chilly when the sun goes down so bring a coat.

Sorry mate 😁 a friend of Somersetrider Dave had a BMW R80 with a top box off a pizza delivery bike on it. However, likewise keep an eye out for the spring rally. All welcome! And keep out of the way of grouses! 'Grumpygit' wrote his capo off and broke his foot and collarbone after 'capo Mario' had a bird strike in front of him at one of the Llandovery rally ride outs.

cool glad you enjoyed my Exhaust note probably made following me less boring as i am not the fastest rider.

the cans are surplus blue flame cans off my Falco, i had some stainless link pipes bent and welded by a local car exhaust fabricator. however i needed to remap for it to run as well as it does with those pipes.

sounds nice on weekend rides but to be honest, when i have been away for a week riding around europe etc it can get start to get on my nerves.......but not enough to consider putting the stock pipes and Cats back on. :D

You can get universal eb killers you just have to drill a small hole under the back of the pipe and they bolt in when you need them

Sadly didn't make this meet as had to look after my grandson for a week on short notice, took him to Scotland in my camper and we had a great time even if I had forgot how demanding a four year old can be to look after!

Took the little fella to a air museum one day and found the pre-production version of the Rotax V990 engine:
292349

Took some work development work to get it down to a reasonable size:
292350

Not sure I would want to ride a bike fitted with this though!!
