View Full Version : 1200 De Cat experience

Hello Aprilia forum....

A week ago I purchased my second Aprilia, a 2011 1200 Dorsoduro.

As parts, advice, experience and ownership of these bikes seems to be fairly limited I thought I would share my experience from this weekend messing with the 1200 standard exhausts.

I took the boxes off to find the Cats are situated in the front portion. To de-cat this bike you need to either, change the boxes for aftermarket parts or take the cats out of the standard boxes.

I plan on replacing the cans soon but I can't help but fiddle.

after a whole afternoon of drilling, chiseling, banging, swearing and sweating they were both out.

The difference?.....

Or not enough to notice anything. Sounds much the same if not exactly the same, goes the same. Maybe there are tiny gains??... nothing noticeable that is worth spending your whole afternoon smashing them out and ruining your standard cans.

Heres some pics for those that may be interested in what these parts look like off the bike. And my good friends thinning hair ;) we won't tell him.

Hi how are you finding the No CAT?

I have a dorsoduro 1200 2011. I have MIVV exhausts fitted. Sounds brilliant (no DB killers) but i am only getting 82 miles max to a tank. I ran it dry tonight by mistake. Next plan to fit the DB killers and see how many miles I get. Then it's a re-map of some sorts I think. How do you find it between 1500rpm and 3000rpm?

Conorian, would you have some pictures or explanation of what you removed, and where to cut ?

Did you notice any difference in temp? I have read that a lot of people who decat their 750's can tell the exhaust is cooler.

So you did notice the pipes are cooler or is that just the 750's?
If it is cooler I am thinking of just taking a hole saw to them.
