hi guys,

i am looking for some advise please. i have just started a new job and have to travel 60+ miles a day to and from work on the motorway. my idea due to travel cost and traffic issues is for my to buy a second hand piaggio mp3 or any version of a small 3 wheeled bike so i can drive it on my car licence on the motorway and still slip through traffic.

so i have a couple of questions

can i ride these bike just on my car licence as i have no wish to do my cbt. ( i did ride bike years ago so can ride )

can i take passengers.

I am not from the UK but a quick Google of your question indicates that the law in the UK changed recently about this and now you do need a motorcycle license to operate a three wheeler.

wrong, you can drive a mp3 on a car licence but only if it has a foot operated brake then its registered as a atv wich you can drive with a car licence in the uk
if it has hand operated brakes then its registered as a motorcycle and you need a bike licence to drive it

btw the model with the foot brake is called MP3 LT
and dont get the 300 or 400 model get the 250 or 500

Did you click on either of the links I posted that talked about how the laws in the UK have changed regarding three wheeled vehicles?
Not sure how these changes affect the OP, but there is a possibility that he is grandfathered in.

a threewhealer and a atv are not the same
the mp3 LT has a homologation as a atv not a threewheeler or a motorcycle

That is not what it says here. This says it is classed as a three wheeler.

It sounds like you are grandfathered in if you got your car drivers license before Jan. 19th, 2013. Otherwise you now need a motorcycle license.

do you know the difference between the names

MP3 is a three wheeler with motorcycle homologation so you need a motorcycle licence to drive one
the MT3 LT has nothing to do with the MP3 its a separate product and has a homologation as atv because of it foot operated brake

go to the piaggio shop and let them show you the papers
