New member here: I was told by a dealer that there were not many DD1200s sold in the USA because of emissions certification problems in California. (his theory...I don't know). I have a very nice 2011 DD1200. Does anyone know how to find the number of DD1200s actually sold in the US for model year 2011 and 2012? Do we have a collector's bike on our hands? Thanks.

Maybe 100 of the 2012s, and I know there were only 75 of the 2012s

True, the 2012s sat in the usa warehouse almost a year. Aprilia updated the mapping and needed to get that certified EPA/carb again.

And I turned down a new 2012 for about $11,400 OTD in July and bought a DD 750 ABS :bangwall:.

So, maybe a hundred DD1200's sold in the US in 2011 and around 70 in 2012? Considering how good this bike is, that's a surprise! I think they are still offered in several other countries, and the next Capo Nord will have our 1200 engine and the DD1200 frame. check out: http://blog.motorcycle.com/2012/02/03/manufacturers/aprilia/2013-aprilia-caponord-1200-revealed-at-piaggio-dealer-meeting/

Thanks Ed. I am assuming that is a typo and meant as 100 2011's and 75 2012's. Would you have an accurate number of worldwide production of the DD1200?
I may chase after a "collector" bike status here in Canada eventually and will need to show them world production numbers. Thanks Tom

Hey Ratmoul, Just curious what is the advantage of achieving "collector" status? Is it more than bragging right??

Hi Here in the peoples republic of BC, A vehicle that is 25 yrs old or more ( or at least 15 yrs and limited production) and in near perfect shape can get certified for collector plates. Insurance goes from about 2000/yr to 250/yr. It will be a while before the DD1200 can qualify.

I will take this time to mention in case anyone is looking for a SWEET DD1200 we do have one ATM and the price is not obnoxious and it rides like a total beast!

Shameless pimping I know but somebody deserving of this awesomeness should get it! We ship unless you wanna ride it home, if you do I will pick you up at the airport if needed as long as you schedule a flight that works with my schedule.

Hey Alex. I have not heard any numbers for Canada, but will poke around a bit and see what I can come up with. ICBC would want world wide numbers, and I have not had anyone chime in with that yet either. Pop by Cultus Lake if you are ever down in the Fraser Valley... Cheers Tom
