After how many miles does the rear gear need to be changed? My mechanic who I don't yet trust completely said that since I got the new gold chain and new 15 tooth front gear that I would need to change the rear asap. (he was more specific, but i forget exactly what was said). BTW my motor has 1,700 miles on it, and I asume that is how many miles are on the rear gear.

any info is deff. appreciated

Yup, change it. it will cause premature wear in the new chain which will then prematurely wear the front sprocket. It is pennies to buy and your spanner jocky sounds like he is worth trusting if he pointed this out to you. He could have just fittted the new stuff and sucked more cash out of you when it all wears out ahead of its service life. If you want the chain and sprockets to last a seriously long time fit an automatic chain oiler. I fitted a Scottoiler and it has worked wonders for mine.
