well here we go, another bike bought and im rebuilding it completely for my 16th in November,
last week i bought an RS 50 2004 as a project , one of the gearbox shafts had sheered :( and was in need of some tlc, i decided to strip all the fairings off and remove the engine so i could go through the loom for any breakages, all new conectors ect and grease/replace all bearings ill leave the engine till last as that should be pretty straight forward, ill upload some photos soon so you get an idea of whats happening and the progress. i paid 150 for the bike and not bad for an 04 Rs well i thought not, not looking to spend a fortune as its a first road bike, but yes i can ride a bike i race motocross haha!

Just remember to get plenty of pics of your progress ,and if your struggling for parts ask on the forum. Most people who have had projects are likely to have good useable spares left over.I know I've got plenty!!

Looks like you've got a bit of bin bait there mate, but nowhere near as much as I had. The tank looks pretty well shot, mine was like that! keep your eyes open on ebay and you can pick a decent 1 up for not much more than 20 if thats what you want to do. You never know you might even pick 1 up in the right colours.Same with the rear cowling.

RS_Roadrage
08-02-2012, 02:43 PM
Bit of work yes , but for 150 and only travelling 1hr 20 mins im not complaining haha! the tank isnt too bad going to repair it with some fiberglass on the back , the rest is just glue of an old tank protector, im thinking of making a fiberglass cowl instead of the seat! well that should be interesting haha!

RS_Patrick
08-02-2012, 03:50 PM
Make sure you mmake the surface a little rough before you aply the fiberglass and epoxy resin so it has something to grip on, try if you can poor some epoxy resin on the otherside of the crack.

Exhaust is scrap...

As for the Engine, order Yamaha TZR-50 Minarelli AM-6 parts, same parts, verry difrent price :)

RS_Roadrage
08-02-2012, 04:18 PM
Yeah I know about the fiberclass bit, can be abit of an arse! Yeah I believe the am6 engines are the same? And I ordered erlier, piston kit , gaskets kit , seals, good main bearings, throttle cable (I will be dissonecting the oil pump though),flywheel puller, and a complete gearbox shaft , all new apart from the shaft, all the bits have cost 100 including postage , I thought the bike was quite a resonable price but the pictures don't do it any justice! Ha

Anyone got any advise on any problems or must do's when i come to splitting the cases? :micah:

nicketynoo
08-03-2012, 12:25 PM
yeah take pictures, note down where each washer goes! look out for washers that stick on bottoms of shafts with the oil. They may be only thin but make a massive difference to gear selecting when re-assembled. I wasted hours by putting 1 washer back in the wrong place.

RS_Patrick

Use a Workshop manual for the AM-6 (dont use Haynes) preferably atleast 2 difrent AM-6 manuals, if one is a bit unclear on one point, sometimes the other one shows it much better.

Don't disconect the oilpump mate, much better to leave it hooked up, bike needs to run 1:35 oil/fuel mix max, the oilpump adjust the amount of oil to Rpm and Throttle position, so at idle (1:70) and half throttle (1:50) you get less oil, than at full throttle (1:35), so if your going to do premix you need to mix 1:35 wichj is going to gunk up the sparkplug, cilinder and piston + rings, and exhaust at anything bellow full throttle, its fine for on a track, not so great for road use.

ive not long ordered a haynes :bangwall: its just the fact that ive had so many seizures with new bikes in the past it just worries me haha! still unsure on what to do to weather to keep it! i know how to set it up, and the oil tank is full of sh*t! isnt it full throttle on the bars and the oil pump to the stop?

RS_Roadrage
08-04-2012, 03:17 AM
Well! just been down to the garage today to take a look at the oil pump and ive noticed a few bits missing!:bangwall: the steady tube thing that the cable runs through , the rubber cover and the leaver that goes to the stop! :( unless i can find the bits cheap it will be getting premixed at around 32/33:1

Oil pumps are very expensive (true rs50 ones) so you have too look for derbi am6 ones. I got my derbi oil pump for 40 posted new. Cant get individual parts unfortuantly.

RS_Roadrage
08-04-2012, 07:13 AM
i WILL get this running soon! haha yeah ive been looking im going to get a used one and swap the the parts over, in the heaps of service history i have seams it was a new pump in 2011 and wasnt seized so i dont think its defective! just noticed airbox is also missing :gunner:

RS_Patrick
08-04-2012, 04:31 PM
That pump doesnt fit with the oilpumpcover...

Your missing the parts surounding the pump, not just pump parts mate, look for Yamaha Minareli AM-6 parts from like a DT50 or TZR50, a lot cheaper than Aprilia usualy.

RS_Roadrage
08-04-2012, 04:36 PM
what do you mean the parts around the pump ? im only missing the lever thing that goes round to the stop when at full throttle and the cable guide?

RS_Roadrage
08-05-2012, 11:40 AM
hmm! anyone got any ideas on an airbor or filter , do i fabricate some type of box and cone filter, or just go with the crapy cone filter? ideas :D

RS_Patrick
08-05-2012, 03:35 PM
Buy a Go-Kart style airbox if you no longer have the stock airbox.

On the oilpump you might be missing a few parts more like the rubbers that go into the cover where the tubes and cable run through, so you need to check what you are missing.

And if a Oilpump has been disconected (oiltubes removed etc.) but the gear driving it has not been removed i wouldnt risk running that oilpump but replace it with an other one because it had no 2 stroke oil runing trough it to keep it lubricated and things than wear out on each other or worse.

RS_Roadrage
08-05-2012, 03:43 PM
no it was all plumbed in previously but its been a project for the last two owners who had no clue haha! yeah the hoses and their rubber was there, its just the cable guide+rubber and the lever :( bike need a few bits now not happy! when i push on the front forks a clicking noise happens could be a weak/broken spring or a bush , and the rear caliper seals have gone and cant seem to find many

RS_Patrick
08-05-2012, 03:46 PM
check if theres play on the forklegs or signs of damadge to them.
also check that the fork has no play on the balhead of the frame.

RS_Roadrage
08-05-2012, 03:48 PM
Theres no play in headstock or forks , its all tight calipers tight , spindles tight and clamped puzzled me ! ha dont supose you know anywere selling seal kits for the caliper?

nicketynoo
08-05-2012, 05:06 PM
seals for the rear caliper are here. I'm afraid these are genuine parts but about 16 euros for the revision kit. http://www.easyparts.nl/showdrawing/303/25058/black/0-968-1-m412-m1604-m381-m303-s1572-d25058/Rear_brake_caliper.html also theres a couple of standard airboxes on ebay at the moment, this one looks the best but its 25 .Dont know if you wanted to pay that much! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/04-APRILIA-TUONO-50CC-COMPLETE-AIR-BOX-AIRBOX-VGC-FITS-RS50-RS-50-ALSO-/261075657460?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3cc95262f4

By the way I'll be ordering from them at the end of the month if you dont wanna pay their postage and you can hang on. Will just cost small postage from me.

RS_Roadrage
08-06-2012, 03:32 AM
Thanks for the offer , may get back to you on that one, those airboxes are so pricey :bangwall: ive got around 100 left in the budget not including a new exhaust and thats for brake pads, caliper, rebuild, paint and graphics, filter, indicators, upper shock bush and a couple of pieces ! on the fiche were it shows the techical stickers its got two bags one with 2-3-4-5-6 and the other with 8 and look on the side what one is the uk ones haha!

That oil pump looks something near to me. Its chinese, and there's a number to contact them on. It would be worth calling them, is a good price if it works ok.

Never Ever fit an oilpump thats not intended for your engine!!! even if its for a similar engine you do not know what the original gearing to drive it is, so it might turn to slow or to fast on your engine, meaning you get to little or to much oil than, so don't do it...

RS_Roadrage

Lever may fit ;) haha hoping to get some good used genuine parts :)

RS_Roadrage

If your a bit handy with metal you can easly make your own lever.

little end? you mean the wrist pin? can you post a picture of the 2, or be specific what you mean by smaller, smaller in thickness or shorter in length?

RS_Roadrage
08-08-2012, 03:15 AM
i guess you could say i am haha ;) i was thinking of making my own lever but i cant find a decent picture or dimentions for it! :( its about 1.5mm shorter in legnth ill do an accurate measurment later, should be fine though

RS_Patrick

I have an industrial park near me so dad rides it up there and i get a lift up there wid mum and then i ride it around there :) Stock exhaust you will get more mid range power so it will be more ridable. However, i would go for a Gianelli full system or a arrow street system, something mild.

Glen1990
09-09-2012, 08:31 AM
depends what arrow you get you can get the street arrow exhaust and the racing arrow exhaust ill go for the racing one. if you were gonna the gianelli racing one i cant find anywhere :(

chrism15

click "Reply" as you normally would and once you have included whatever text you want, go down and you will see "Manage attachments".. click that and a extra tab should open, there will be a little box in top right corner where you can browse and attach a file.. click that and below should come up with "Use Basic Uploader"

then once you have chosen and uploaded files, drag and drop them into the bottom section

looks very nice! Love the mono tail and the db screen!
Thought about stripping and polishing the rear sets and other silver painted parts to bare alloy? Makes it look very trick...just a thought!
Brake Callipers look like they could do with a fresh coat of bright red paint. Maybe make up a nice exhaust hanger? Also get the wheel nut/spindle/clamps cleaned and polished up? Just a few suggestions mate, not that it needs it just to make it that little bit more special!

RS_Roadrage
11-18-2012, 10:08 AM
At the minute all the front end is off for a fork service , i will be doing little things like that soon , probably january time when its getting ready for the summer and some new tyres , but untill then it will more than likely stay the same, and i will be buying new rear sets at the same time! Although im still waiting on my giannelli to arrive! Really annoyed its two weeks till im legal and i need an mot so it better hurry up sometime soon

Where did you get the screen from and how much? Just about all I'm needing to finish mine off now.
I've found it easy to post pics using photobucket. Just look through your album and hover over the pic you want to post. 4 boxes open under it. think you click in the bottom box which copies the link to your pic then just paste into your thread .Simples!

Yeah the rs is nearly done! And im legal next weekend! As for the screen it was on ebay for. 39 i think allthough the front part isnt completely Flush but who cares you cant notice unless you toke a good look! And im still waiting on giannelli!:( i must say the screen is light tint and looking through in the dark you cant see anything so its time to pop up and slow down;) haha
