There is an air-box mod that requires the removal of the lid. Is there an alloy or plastic ring around the base of the box that is holding down the air filter and a gasket to match? If so, it was modded. If not, you NEED to get that replaced.

It is called and evo airbox. I have an extra one sitting around right now with 2 extra seals. They help with some mid range power but make sure you have a good seal against the tank.

I had the Evo with the aluminum/rubber ring & K&N. I took mine off when I noticed my butterflies were a bit dirtier than I could accept.

I am afraid I agree with Rob, never dis anything until you have tried it, but my EVO would just not seal. I even moved the tank slightly to try and help, used K&N air filter grease and the filter just buckled and I could see signs of dirt getting in.
