View Full Version : RX50 project

01-21-2011, 02:21 AM
hay guys so my rs50 got stolen but i got it back within 7 hours its a bit tatterd so i bought a rx50 with no engine and using the rs50 as spares then ill rebuild it later after the rx is done :D

so here are the plans

Rs50 wheels (SM look)

Street fighter healight (since the original is cracked and barley held on)

Side mouted exhaust (going to attemp this with the original exhaust then with a better pipe)

Im thinking about a side stand this the rx stand is dodgy and the one i have is going to far forward looks like the springs i might fix it for now then buy a kmx stand and weld a bracket to make it alot easier.

Old Rs50 top end going to be ported and rebored :D

all these things are going to be done to the best of my ability and it should be a fun project since its all "custom" in a way i guess.

I do have a couple mods im considering but i dunno if i wanan change the look of the rx to much.

Rs50 temp gauge, (since the rx dont have one at all)

Led tail light with tail tidy

Rs50 rear pegs (only cause i wanna wheelie it haa)

If you guys have anymore ideas u think will look cool and different let us know but please remember i ant going over the top these mods are minor but will look pretty cool.

If you guys want i can upload pics or you can just add me on facebook sam buckingham

Cheers guys

So ive got school tomoz which sucks total ass but the garage is open which means i can take my bleady swing arm and wheel off, then all the loom can come out and the frame resto can begin.

all im gonna do to the frame is give it some rust treatment stuff that takes like 30 mins to work and it kills the rust then just it some black spray to just give it some protection like, the only nasty rust is under the seat so the spray wont be visible unless u really look, i ant gonna worrie about the scuff marks on the side of the frame from peoples boots cause thats just general wear and tear like and will eventually come back.

i really do think with a real good clean the frame will come up really nice, i cant say much about the swing arm as its rusty and very dull so that will be sprayed like i did to my rs50 swing which to be fair come out really nice and to this day is not even scratched.

ive measured up the rs50 wheels and it looks like they will drop straight on so hopefully it will fit smoothly if not then it could be a few spacers no biggie.

the guy i bought the bike from took the ignition off for his rx125 for the time being then took it off his bike and lost it but finally he found it and is dropping it around soon when he comes and picks up the rx50 forks and fits my new seals and fresh oil in them, really i didnt exspect him to do anything bud seeing as he is a genuin guy im happy thats he helping.

i got woke up today on a sunday (ment to be a lazy day) by my older step bro and his mate piers they come down on a bandit 12 just to help me strip the forks off and the rest of my dam panels, he also told me who took my bike, lets just put it this way one of the lad that took it has a very old bike thats he restoring, and its gonna need alot more work. as they say what goes around comes around.

<3 my bike

"as they say what goes around comes around"
like the sound of that ;), the project seems fun dont give up! ;p and good luck i will keep an eye on this so keep the updates and pictures coming :).
Oh and a bandit 12? thats a nice bike, you know how much that costed him?

01-24-2011, 04:34 PM
I acutally dont know how much that cost him tbh ill ask him in the next couple of days like cause he coming down to pick up my top end and port it for me :D then take me out on the beast properly which most likely means wheelies at 130 mph trust me he will do that im shitting my self lmao full leathers + helmet and gloves is a deffo need lmao haaa.

back on subject the bike has been fully stripped cleaning the frame now and i will be taking pictures in a sec like, also i bought a new rear wheel today with brand new treat and inner tube only cost 50 which is cheap :D all the better i guess haa.

so tonight i cleaned the frame and swing arm a bit aswell as the shock but within 5 mins of fitting it back on with some new copper grease on the bolts they was dirty again so tomoz i will hose it down and get a sponge on it to take off all the crap

01-25-2011, 04:31 PM
so today i give the frame swing arm and shock a good clean not perfect but got most of the crap off tbh, im having a problem with the rear wheel it seems the inner tube likes to inflate out the side of the tyre and wont slip back under the tyre so ive gotta get a tyre place to refit it properly this has happen because of being deflated

since the rear wheel is giving me troubles im gonna test fit the rs50 wheels tomoz see how it goes :D

01-26-2011, 02:00 PM
Ive now dropped the forks off to my mate with new athene seals and 5wt morris fork oil only cost me 23.20 for the seals and oil and my mate is fitting them for free so its all good, i either need to get my rear wheel sorted or decided to fit my rs50 wheels im not sure? i think what could be a idea is put the original wheels on then later after ive had my off road fun stick the rs rims on :D

01-28-2011, 06:43 PM
got a new inner tube fitted today for 10 today but the valve is leaking from the base :/ so gonna ring them back up tomoz and see what they can do for us.

got the forks back today off my mate all done and finished really happy with that only cost me 10 to get them fitted haa

just gotta get that valve repaired tomoz hopefully then i can put the new bearings in and fit the wheels and engine :D

01-29-2011, 06:35 AM
Got a headlight surround, rear tail light panel, chain gaurd and radiator cap coming soon for 30 :D pretty dam happy with the prices atm :D

WOW how cheap is this guys http://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/p-Dellorto_PHBG_21mm_tuning_carburettor_for_2T_scoot ers-4083.aspx

01-29-2011, 07:27 AM
seems really expensive compared to what i have seen at the other euro countries online stores. The cheapest two , from an international perspective (shipping can be waay out of line ie jollymoto.nl!) seem to be www.motoscoot.es and www.motorkit.com, being in europe you will get awesome prices on the shipping, not sure if you will get the 18% tax discounted?? For me this brings the price of this carb

down to 72 euro before shipping, or ~125$NZ , whereas the one you mentioned is 82 quid , or ~170$NZ
And as a side note i picked up my malossi 21mm phbg carb + intake + (shit)filter for 169$NZ from the store scootling.co.nz which is the only shop even remotely related to scooter tuning in the whole country.

01-29-2011, 04:34 PM
yh but that carb has free delivery also because its over 50 :D

Decided to fix a few things that was bugging me today like the crappy paint and dodgy dials lol (the case fell off nail glue is brilliant ya know lol)

Give my mate a fiver today for some rust treated for the frame, gonna put it on later tonight then spray it with some grey primer just to seal the surface :D

01-31-2011, 05:11 PM
Took the rs50 engine out today along with the starter relay and 2 wires for the start just got to fit a switch and connect a wire to the ignition from the relay which seems pretty straight forward i also treated the swing arm and primered it, not the best job but i will be taking the bike off road and primer matches the swing arm original colour the best plus its easy to spray again.

My friend is bringing over some gaskets for me in half an hour or so, then ill start taking the casings off the rs50 engine cleaning them and fitting new gaskets cause the last thing i want it a leaky gasket now lol.

Another thing i will be fitting a kick start later on even tho i have the electric start just so i have choice or my relay plays up randomly sometime u never know!

Im deffo buying TNT engine covers for the sprocket and flywheel aswell as some blue bolts for the clutch casing and flywheel cover :D just to give it a bit of shine lol

Ill upload pics later

Another thing i dont get why is the exhaust port so oily when i got the bike back from being stolen the exhaust was dripping black oil im worried atm what could this mean? Upjetting or a more serious problem?

02-01-2011, 06:24 PM
Fitted the wheels + new bearings today and dropped the engine in just got to get new gaskets for the clutch, fly wheel & water pump cause my old ones are shot then new oil aswell, but atm its coming together nicely.

Ordered a front headlight panel, chain gaurd, radiator cap & rear left panel today for 33 including postage so that being sent out tomoz for me which is brilliant heres a pic after the fitting everything today :D

02-02-2011, 04:21 PM
That plug looks too rich to me mate ;)

02-02-2011, 04:49 PM
Check the Cankshaft Seals verry carefully mate...

Electrode of the Plug doesnt look to bad, can be a bit leaner but not much, but its time for a new sparkplug though.

02-02-2011, 05:23 PM
Okay then well ill stick another plug in like i said and why the crankcase seals i cant smell exhaust funes or carbon of anything in he gearbox oil how does the crank caae seals cause this then?

also ive just read i can just take the rotor off and the clutch cover and be able to check the seals like that?

02-02-2011, 05:39 PM
Ok just done a bit of research and if it is the crank seals it would be the right seal as it would be sucking in oil from the gearbox im geussing but my old oil was pink like strawberry milk shake if that was trying to be burnt i really would think ud see it at the end of my exhaust but i could be wrong so ill check the seal tomoz :D thanks patrick

When i took out the old gearbox oil there was alot of it, didnt seem to be low on oil or anything, do u think it could have something to do with the engine being stood doing nothing for about a year but also it does have having a 63 main jet, with a BR9ES Plug but a restricter in the exhaust? would that cause over oil?

02-02-2011, 10:15 PM
you really need to drain it into a measuring container when the bike is hot, and compare that to the amount of oil you put in the last time. 63 main jet sounds quite small, though i dont know the specifics, if your crank seal is blown it will be extremely smokey when you rev it, smoke screen style.
Also if your wet side crank seal is gone, trust that your dry side has gone too :)

02-03-2011, 05:18 AM
Im gonna replace the spark plug as i.really think.thats the problem cause the.engine dont have.as.much power as.my.last.one plus.i.never changed the.plug.or oil infact i was going to the day it.got nicked.lol fail.much haa ill.check the seals but how will.i.know if there gone.or.not?

02-03-2011, 11:37 AM
I'm thinking of putting some RS wheels on my 02 RX, what year is yours? Do they drop straight it?

02-03-2011, 12:47 PM
By the looks of things they should do bud i ant gonna be testing it just yett till its on road and the mot and everything is done :D

Little update:

Fitted the airbox today along with he carb, but i relised i needed the proper rx manifold as the rs manifold hits the shock so ive got one of them coming now for 6 off a friend, i also fitted the oil tank and chucked the wiring loom in so i can get a ruff idea how to route it around still havnt worked out where the rear lights connect but im sure ill figuire it out eventually lol.

before i forget the mudgaurd was fitted as well and every part i fit seems to make the bike look even bigger lol its awsome and im really loving the look and change of the rx , but the love i have the rs will always be there and really i cant wait till i put the rs back on road aswell then ive got 2 awsome bikes :D

i cleaned the clutch side from old oil didnt get a chance to check the seals tho yett but im deffo thinking its just the spark plug well actually im hoping it is

02-03-2011, 08:59 PM
Wheels of a RS50 dont fit just like that into a RX50, if you think you do than i think you need some (new) glasses.

02-04-2011, 02:14 AM
Where the spindles go through is around the same size but obvi im guessing your gonna need to make new spacers and that .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pPU6eS08_A I really wish this guy spoke english so he could explain how he fitted his wheels :/

02-04-2011, 11:45 AM
Your forgetting the Brake Disks and Calipers mate... on top of that the Rear Sprocket needs to be perfectly in line with the Front sprocket ot the chain and sprockets are gonna wear really fast, the chain might even break...

02-04-2011, 03:23 PM
Big update :D

Today i fitted the replacement Front headlight panel which looks really good, along with this i also fitted the engine covers aswell.

I had a good go at trying to figuire out what im missing from the wiring and what wires are what and heres what ive figuired out so far it would be nice if i could get a second opinion on it tho thanks :D
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs071.snc6/168182_1847934282631_1368923984_32089972_7962435_n .jpg
Im guessing by the looks of things the Red and blue wires are a indicator aswell as the Dark blue and light blue wire are a indicator as well but for some reason someone has cut the short blue wire :/ bitches lol

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs045.snc6/167513_1847935082651_1368923984_32089975_3923297_n .jpg
Im guessing these are earth wires by the looks of them, as on my rs50 the blue and green wires tend to be earths most of the time if i cant find where they go?

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs790.ash1/168012_1847935362658_1368923984_32089976_5399813_n .jpg
I think this is for the front brake light switch :D

Where do these wires go? i had a thought of a Relay since ive only got 1 relay and a fuse box thats it? how many relays should i have?

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs900.ash1/180833_1847935762668_1368923984_32089978_2458814_n .jpg
I have no idea where these go apart from maybe a voltage regulator?

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/167556_1847935922672_1368923984_32089979_2507387_n .jpg
Random brown wire coming off the middle of the Loom i have no idea where this goes whats so ever?

This wire comes off the rotor and i connects to the voltage regulator like it does on my rs50 :D

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs289.snc6/181766_1847936562688_1368923984_32089981_7514627_n .jpg
Ignition conector block, what one of these wires would i connect a wire from to go to the Starter relay since im fitted a starter motor?

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs046.snc6/167642_1847936762693_1368923984_32089982_4223362_n .jpg
This connector is for the Rear light im almost positive of this one

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs042.snc6/167276_1847937442710_1368923984_32089985_5360726_n .jpg
Does this wire that comes from the middle of the wiring loom go to the CDI? cause if it dont where does it go?

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs038.snc6/166848_1847940962798_1368923984_32089998_7701728_n .jpg
I know where the big connection fits to but where does the small White/red wire connect to is this the wire that goes to the CDI?

I need a wiring diagram for the RX50, does anyone have a link or anything since i think i need it tbh since someone has done a bodge job on the wiring before and i cant figuire out anything on the loom 100%

Dont guess with electrical wires... guessing is asking for your project to go up in smoke, use a Diagram.

02-04-2011, 05:02 PM
Im downloading the manual from ur link as we speak bud thanks :D

02-08-2011, 06:06 PM
ok guys since im fitting a rs50 engine i thought id give it ago at fitting a starter motor now ive figuire out that u have a wire from the starter to the relay then a wire from the relay to the positive terminal on the battery that part i understand but how would i wire it up to the ignition and a switch? would i just put a wire from the relay to the switch then earth the other terminal of the switch and to connect it to the ignition would i attach a wire to the relay then connect it t the blue wire on the ignition just like on the rs50s?

02-08-2011, 07:09 PM
Look at the Wiring Diagram mate, its not that hard than.
I dont know what colours your wires are supost to be, on my Tuareg and AF1's there completly difrent colours from my RS50, and as far as i know the Wires are a difrent couler code for you also.

Relay gets Switched On by current comming from the Switch, than the Relay gets engaged and Current starts flowing from the Battery to the Starter engine.

02-08-2011, 07:14 PM
Ive looked but im not 100% sure thats why ive asked the colours are the same but on the rs50 its more complex than the rx could u possibly check out the diagrams and confirm what ive said im no electrician but im soon gonna be doing my VRQ in Electro Technology :D

03-02-2011, 03:44 PM
the bike has come along way last time i posted guys if u want pics just say :D little issue tho ive done everything but my forks have play down the bottom half? is this normal or do u know what could be causing this? i did just have the fork seals replace along with new oil
btw everything is done on the bike apart from 3 parts rear tail peace, chain and sprocket kit & airbox pipe also i bought a rx50 the other week for 20 without a log book took a load of parts off it and sold it to my mate for 20 now he is putting that rx50 back on road aswell and im building him the engine just waiting for his parts :D

03-02-2011, 04:46 PM
Always want pictures... :crowbar:

Forks got Play back and forward etc. on the legs? Than its probably worn out complety on the bits they slide onto each other.

03-02-2011, 04:51 PM
ahh kk not good then well im gonna throw it though mot might get a advisory is what my boss thinks bud i know the guy aswell so see what i can do hehe and ill get some pics up later ok bud it looks proper nice now espesh with a rs125 new shape end can lmao!

fitted the new chain and sprockets today having a issue with the stand tho as it hits my chain whats wrong? the chain is slack enough or are they tight on the rx cause of this issue? i really dont wanna wreck my new chain i did get it check by my boss and he said the chain slack is fine aswell and if it comes to it we will weld a bracket to rest the stand further down atm its on the stand roller that hits the swing arm to stop it obvi

03-04-2011, 02:37 PM
what ya think?

03-08-2011, 01:32 AM
Should weld the Sidestand or the Bracked it Pivots on, just put a Weld on there and grind it into a nice shape and spray the thing black, usualy the point where the sidestand pivots on has a point where the sidestand comes to rest on wen its upright, same as the point wen it stands, and it usualy wears off a bit, so putting a weld on there solves the problem.

03-08-2011, 02:12 AM
ahh ok then cheers ill take a look at that tomoz

The chain always runs along the centre stand on these, very common to see older ones that the stand has virtually been cut through....most have a bracket for a chain runner to lift it off the stand but these often wear our and do not get replaced....some people put a piece of the same plastic from on top of the swingarm on their stand

03-10-2011, 04:13 PM
hmm i just hope richie pases it through mot ben tbh, i reckon he will its going in tomoz anyways so ill find out and update ya if it passes ben me and u are riding sunday :D

05-12-2011, 04:26 PM
thats smart keep it that way not alot of the original graphic rx's around :D

Check your Sparkplug colour, Spark with the plug Hex section hold against a Engine bold and the Spark with the Sparkplug Cap removed with the Lead Wire Core atleast 5mm to 10mm max from an Enginebold.
Check the Reeds.
Check the Compresion if you have access to a compresion tester.
Check that your Pipe Puffs hard and the gasses dont flow out.
Check the Chain tension and Sprockets, maybe you got the wrong size sprokets and it simply cant pull them.
Check theres no gaskets leaking like the Reed gaskets and Cilindergasket, but also look at where the 2 crankhalfs join.
Check the Coolingfluid, that it doesnt drop or stinks like Carbon from combustion gasses.
You already replaced the Crankseals right?

05-22-2011, 10:09 AM
Crank seals have been replace, clutch, flywheel and water pump gasket been replace
new clutch also the reeds hav like a rubber sitting so it should seal fine the reeds look fine aswell they are standard but tbh the bike when it was standard and before the clutch when i could drop the clutch and the bike flew up on the back wheel now nothing, last time i check the compression a few weeks ago was 120 psi i havnt check the plug colour recently but ill take a picture tonight i was advised by a friend on the last plug pic that u thought water was in the tank that maybe i should show the clip on the needle down one also upjet one size i did upjet one size but never did the clip :/

The water colour looks fine but i will check if it stinks of carbon

ive have the same sprockets and chain since when i put it back on road it was a new set and it was fine before

ive however also replace the packing in the exhaust for better backpressure how ever there is a slight leak in the end can where i need some sealent to stop it blowing slightly.

05-22-2011, 12:28 PM
Ok so here we go the check list u gave me has been completed and ive got pics there is good and bad.

Plug is screwed getting new one tomoz although the colour dosnt look bad thats with a 85 jet after taking that plug out i moved the needle clip down one for more fuel :D

This proves the point even more that the plug is screwed very weak spark not good this could be a cause also.

Ever since ive done the clutch, seals, carb and up jetting its been very clean around the exhaust port u can see the dirty oil from when the new parts was not fitted.

This is where the exhaust is blowing im going to be using heat proof silicon to seal it up.

I also did a compression test this was about 10-15 mins after a short ride around the block as u can see its 145 psi but before it was 120 psi so i cant see it having dropped considering it starts by hand on the kick start every morning without choke :D
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/249681_2079156423040_1368923984_32421667_4188523_n .jpg

Obviously i need new reeds and a new plug but i really cant see this causing that sort of impact to the torque and top speed of the bike

05-22-2011, 05:58 PM
Reeds are open in this pic:
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/249641_2079154662996_1368923984_32421661_857205_n. jpg

Thats how your supost to look at them, holding it up to the light and looking if there closing, on your picture its even showing that there not closing.
On top of that they look like Stock Reeds to me.

120PSI is perfect.

Guide to Plugs: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/tech_support/spark_plugs/faqs/faqread.asp

05-22-2011, 05:59 PM
Yh i know the reeds are open they need replacing asap also yes they are stock

i dont wanna spend super money on reeds so any suggestions ? i should be able to get some reeds off my mate for 10 there polini reeds off his old rx that he sold but he kept the reeds for me just incase ill see if i can get the 10 to buy them

the plug also looks as if its dry and wet fouling how ever also abnormal arosion :S what would u say?

05-22-2011, 06:24 PM
Think the plug looks just a bit old, keep in mind your running a 2 stroke and your seals leaked, so the plug wont look perfect anyway, a new plug might even look like that after a few days if theres a lot of carbon deposits left in the combustion chamber.

I dont know about secondhand reeds dude, i first see if there sraight on your reedcage and if they fully seal before spendin 10 pounds, for 10 pounds you can buy perfectly good new reeds anyway.

05-22-2011, 06:46 PM
its the whole cage for 10 pound including the pedals so i can check there and then ill deffo give em a look like

05-24-2011, 04:22 PM
so i fitted my new BR9ES Plug today i find the bike is more responsive on the throttle and the tick over sounds alot more stable and reliable which is great i havnt had a chance to test it yet as my rear pads are capish and i need new ones ive got my pump kit now and ill add pics of it and explain later on.

on another note more specifically the reeds the guy in my 2 stroke shop said just turn the reeds around lol would this even work

05-24-2011, 06:27 PM
no, dont turn the reeds around mate, they have weakened anyway so they be standing open with in a few miles again, And if you turn them round they may crack or even rip off.

05-24-2011, 06:41 PM
ok bud ill leave em how they are wont be long now till i get the new ones moneys shit tight and its head doing

05-25-2011, 02:16 PM
hehe polished the bike the wheels look mint AUTOSOL for the win haaa i used some spray polish on the panels and seat and it come up nice :D ive still gotta get new reeds turn the mixture screw in as ive been advised it to rich, and also spray the swing arm and put my Petrol mag.net stickers on it

06-01-2011, 03:26 PM
So my Throttle cable decided to snap on saturday so my bike is stranded at a mates house till tomoz when the throttle cable should arrive hopefully, on another note i went to my mechanics interview today and because of my previous experience in the garage im around 3 weeks ahead when i start in september woop woop.

So back on the bike today Niebba kindly droped the polini reeds to me i already owed him a 10 for some carbon bits along with that i give him a 10 for the reeds aswell so 20 in total which is awsome heres so pics of the reeds and the new cable i ordered :D

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/250829_2101595744009_1368923984_32453863_3221734_n .jpg

and here is the throttle cable ive ordered off ebay :D

06-01-2011, 07:20 PM
Learn to look for Imitation parts first... even from a regular webshop that would have been cheaper, even if you ordered a imitation cable from one of the dutch shops including shipping you probably would still have saved money on it.

I just ordered a throttle cable today and that was more than 20GBP cheaper and from the same manufacturer as the original aprilia ones, just no aprilia labled plastic bag around it.

06-01-2011, 08:06 PM
Rx50 cables seem to be a pain in the a*s to get hold of around here for some reason i just ordered the one i first saw i didnt buy it haa

06-03-2011, 07:39 PM
Fitted the cable and reeds today and OMG its pulls like a train i think ive now got a enought power to put the 13t on there without struggling to take off haa haa

also today ive noticed that under the exhaust port there is a whole in the crank cases my base gasket was covering it ill take a picture tomoz im sure its not ment to be there altho it looks like it is surely the barrel should cover it?

06-06-2011, 03:14 PM
Another thing also i changed the piston rings today cause my bike was getting hard to start it would start then die straight away :/ so i changed the rings and i think its still happenind and its since i put the new polini reeds in any idea why?

Its had 19.5 carb, new clutch, race pipe, new reeds upjetted perfectly i checked today, and everything else seems fine ive never had to use choke there for i dont have one fitted im just wondering why this is happening now?

06-06-2011, 03:23 PM
wheres the picture of the hole in the crankcase mate???

Did you adjust the Mixturescrew and Idle screw after you fitted the new reeds? are did you fit new gaskets for the reedcage?

06-06-2011, 03:24 PM
I havnt taken it ill take it now wait 10 mins ok, and no i havnt do i need to? and why also the reeds dont use a gasket on these ones there like a rubber/plastic and seal them selfs im pretty sure

06-06-2011, 03:33 PM
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/254278_2113451440394_1368923984_32469840_3171987_n .jpg

06-06-2011, 04:45 PM

allready pointed it out to someone on here recently that some cilinders got a base that covers the opening, and some dont, doesnt matter much as its nothing more than a hollow space infront of the crankcase.

06-06-2011, 04:47 PM
ahh ok just got a little scared then and as for the mixture should i upjet or down jet? im at 85 shall i go 82 or 88?

06-06-2011, 04:50 PM
Anyway you always need to fit a Gasket on the Engine side of the Reedcage, on the Manifold side theres a rubber ring cut into the Reedcage wich seals onto the smooth surface of the Manifold.

Yeah, you Always need to Adjust the Mixture and Idle wen changin the Reeds, in some cases you even need to Rejet (usualy smaller)

06-06-2011, 04:52 PM
So i should mess with the mixture screw and idle and maybe consider down jetting to get it to start aswell since it isnt atm and i need to bump it when its hot it starts first time

06-06-2011, 05:05 PM
Did your reedcage come with 2 difrent coloured reeds or just 2 the same?

You want to raise the idle a little and adjust the mixture till the engine runs nicest and responds wel wen you rev it and it instandly revs down wen you let go of the throttle. than you turn on the lights on the bike and adjust the idle, if your clutch is adjusted corectly you it should even idle perfectly fine in 1st gear with the clutch in and the headlight on.

06-06-2011, 05:07 PM
Ok ill try that tomoz, atm the idle is wierd its gotta be quite high or its dies but it slowly dies and the idle takes time to drop not like it used to where if u moved the idle screw it would drop accordingly.

and the reeds are both the same

also further back in the thread theres pics of the reed cage aswell

06-06-2011, 05:37 PM
allright so there both blue on each side, not blue one side and green on the other side of the reedcage.

If you did not fit a Gasket for the Reedcage its Leaking, drawing in Air, wich causes exactly what you describe.

06-06-2011, 05:42 PM
ahh ok what can i seal it with cause i never got a gasket with it can i used silicon or will that just deteriorate because of the fuel? or should i just make a gasket?

Just made 2 gaskets one for the top and one for the bottom of the reed cage out of Cereal box card which is thin and compressed so it should fit tightly and seal good

06-07-2011, 05:31 AM
That wont work... its gonna desolve and leak, might even make a nice mess inside the engine if it gets sucked in.

Just use Instand Gasket (not to much, just a nice line alll around) or order/buy a gasket.

06-07-2011, 08:33 AM
Cereal boxes have been used on loads of bikes it withstands really well infact i even remember using it in the garage where i worked when we recieved a wrong gasket

06-07-2011, 04:27 PM
In anycase Instand Gasket works better and if you rub the carboard in with Instand Gasket its gonna seal a lot better.

I always used Gasket Paper to cut a gasket from if i didnt have one, think every garage has a few sheets of that laying around.

06-07-2011, 08:30 PM
I fitted my cereal gaskets today and its perfect also i down jetted and its perfect, also ive relised my clutch cable is stretched and i need a new one since i can feel my clutch draggin and im full adjustment

06-08-2011, 05:29 PM
Did you atleast put some grease on your cereal cardboard gaskets?

If your clutch drags, it can also be its not adjusted properly on the clutch it self, the screw and nut in the center of the clutch...

06-08-2011, 07:05 PM
nah its the cable its old and stretched

06-09-2011, 05:29 PM
Ordered a new clutch cable today i cant wait to feel the difference :D also just checking cause i may have set it up wrong before but on the bottom of the clutch cable the nuts and stuff do u put one nut in front of the mount and one behind to keep it in place?

06-10-2011, 04:19 AM
Yeah. if you still have problems adjusting it i sugest you look at the clutch unit it self than and adjust it from there.

If you dont know how to set it, than first ask before messing things up, it should have a slight clearancewith the clutch cable adjusters screwed in.

06-10-2011, 02:44 PM
yh i know its gotta have like slack on the lever and the biting point is like a little more than half way out but on the carb theres 2 nuts to adjust the cable aswell as on the handle bar :S

06-10-2011, 04:35 PM
yeah, but usualy you only need to adjust it on the handlebar.

06-10-2011, 05:42 PM
ok but for when i fit the new cable how do i put it in on the bottom first time slack as possible on the bottom then just leave the top for adjustment?

07-21-2011, 04:50 PM
Any Idea what the rattle from my clutch is ? been like it ever since ive done the clutch plates :S

07-21-2011, 07:33 PM
If its been since you done the clutch plates your the one that should know what it is mate, i dont know but you probably fitted something wrong.

07-22-2011, 07:25 AM
aparently its a common problem so ive heard but i just can fiquire it out tbh

07-26-2011, 06:04 AM
Ok so i went throught the clutch casing and found there was a very slightly lose gear so i tightened that up and i think ive cured the noise i ran it without oil and i can still hear a noise when the clutch is out when i pull it in it goes away :s seems fine tho tbh.

Ive raised the needle on the carb and the bike revs better and idles lower and more steady also it trys to wheelie when i take off now :/ lmao

got a new shock, gearbox oil, front lever, front master cyclinder, and rear caliper coming aswell as a indicator bulb for the rx so i can get it all ready for mega ride and so i can sell the bike soon aswell only looking for like 600 which is stupidly cheap since its got the 19.5 carb new seals, new clutch ran on the best oil kicks first time and has a electric start and full arrow race pipe which they dont make anymore plus ive also got a spare set of forks and i just replaced the water pump but these bikes dont go for much and barely reach 600 most of the time so i dunno

07-26-2011, 02:24 PM
If you pull the clutch lever the engine usualy makes less noise because your not driving the gearbox, remember, even in Neutral the Gearbox is driven, the gears just dont drive the outgoing shaft.

‪Rs125 & Rx50 Sound Test‬‏ - YouTube heres the sound test for the rx now and the rs125 btw the rs125 spark plug was lose i fixed this after and also put the idle up a little bit as it wasnt very stable and kept cutting out

08-02-2011, 08:18 AM
The Rx50 Will be up for sale soon :( as ive got the Rs125 and a Rs50 in parts in my garage but this does mean i will be starting work on the rs50 :D

The Rx50 Stands like this

Recent New parts:
Throttle cable
Clutch cable
