hi, just thought today, I turned 17 on the 6th of november but I've took my bike off the road for MOT work, I was thinking today do I still need L plates and can I carry a pillion passenger now I'm 17?

I'm pretty much sure you can't mate.

Things like this will be on Direct.Gov

You need Loser plates until you've passed you're full test, A2 or DAS (there's also A1 but forget about that as it's a load of shit). You also can't carry a passenger until you've passed your full test.

There is an exception to this rule where people who've obtained there car license pre ~1997 can ride a 50cc and carry a pillion without having to do a CBT or pass their full motorcycle test. Doesn't apply to you though

Of course it is. Unless he's riding the VFR illegally.

Yeah that's legal, he's passed his A2, unless there's something he isn't telling us ahah.

Cant pass your DAS until your 21 or over.

I was talking in general terms, hence highlighting the exception to the rule.

Carring people on a 50? you will certainly not enjoy it.
And no its not legal, but that doesn't mean you cant do it.

Its the risk you have to take, if you are gonna do it.

It's so bait doing it on a 50cc here in the UK.

You can carry a pillion on a 50 as long as you have a full licence - even at 16. There is a 'ped licence that allows you take off the L plates and carry a passenger as long as you pass the full test for the 'ped. I don't know anyone who's ever actually done it.

At 17, it's best to take the test for the A2 licence, which also covers you for 'peds.

Your insurer must be notified if you intend to carry a pillion.

Not on loosers you can't.

You need to have passed your A2 to carry passengers and ride anything bigger than a restricted 125.

You still need L plates until you have passed your test obviously.
