The RS250 isn't a 4 stroke mate.

It certainly is not! I have both here, 2 x 125 and a 250. The 125 is the rotax Kart motor, the 250 is the RGV250 suzuki motor. Bot top of the tree 2 stroke engines. The 250 is such a gem, 2 cyl V twin, nice and light, and 65BHP with a light once over tuning wise. Most 125s derestricted are about 28Hp, and tend to get a bit finicky if you take them any further.

Engines to fit in a 125, basically is any rotax unit, as the chain is on the right. The 250 crosser motor has been thought of, and I think there isn a 450 4 stroke conversion that has been done. Do not underestimate the work required for an engine swap. If I were doing an RS125 for a newly qualified rider, (I am, BTW), I would start with a restricted bike that could be fully legally ridden, you can get used to the weight and the handling then, and enjoy the amazing looks and be eyed up by the ladies. ( my son seems to have had an offer a day since he started riding it, LOL) Then on getting your license, it can be progressively derestricted. I'm about to try a new programmable CDI, which will run the powervalve, and allow the thing to rev on, which the restriced CDI will not, and eliminate the need for a new wiring harness. The 125 is restricted by the CDI, no powervalve, and the intake trumpet. Obviously the jetting needs changing too. Trust me, the 250 would be a total dog if restricted to 33bhp. It can be done, but it'd be such pants as to not be worthwhile. Really, if you buy a rs250 and restrict it, I will be forced to pop round and rip the keys from your lifeless fingers, LOL, such an act should carry the death penalty!

Do that, you'll be fine. Start saving, you'll need 1600 for a decent new shape bike.

Why a 125 though?

Why not get a 400. Or if you wanted to get an actual 4-stroke 250 then kawasaki has just released the ninja 250. Basically a cbr125 on speed!

Thats a clever idea, stepping from a RS125 to a RSV4!
In fact i think thats even stupider than you thinking an rs250 was 4-stroke LOL.

Lol Okay why would the RS250 be a 4 stroke.

Anyway about your RSV4 say your 16 now on a 50cc, you get your RS125, your going to be on a restricted licence for 2 years, then your going for an RS250, then your going to want some time on a 600/750 to get used to that then go for your RSV4.

I'd say it was about 5 years before you get your RSV4.

Sure you still want it? There will be a new bike out by then.

Ahh my bad, I thought it was a single LOL

Yeah Max I really like the look of them CBR250, got one fuck of a redline on them too ayye ;)

DK Aprilia don't really do a mid range bike i.e. a 600cc. Aprilia only seems to make 2 stroke or V-Twins.

DK.Tandy
11-10-2009, 05:10 PM
thats why i wanted to now, if any mid range engine fitted in the rs125 with me thinking the 250 was 4 stroke :/

do any 250 4 stroke / higher fit in a rs125

DanHam
11-10-2009, 05:18 PM
Why would you want to go into all that trouble? And no I highly doubt it anyway.

Trust me there is life beyond Aprilia, I never thought I would get a different bike, Now I have 2 Honda's and I don't plan on keep ing Honda forever either, using the same make of bike will get boring, we need change man.

Dom.C
11-10-2009, 05:37 PM
There's no point in doing an engine swap etc. No offence but it isn't as easy as you may think.

Then there's insurance etc. to take into consideration.

Old Geezer

:plus: benny, true, all of it. If considering an engine swap in the 125, I think there's a rotax 250 4 stroke as well as the 2 stroke, but I'd take the 2 stroke every time. If it's less than 400cc, 2 stroke is where it's at. Nothing to be worried about, they don't cost any more to run really than any supposedly equivalent 2 stroke, nor do they wear out, or are any less reliable. Highly strung bike engines all require TLC, and will bite back if you don't give it. At least with a 2 stroke you can't abuse the oil change interval.
