Hi peeps,

Looking for an Ohlins steering damper for my 2008 RSVR, just wondered if dampers off of the older model mille's ie 98-2003 and 2004-2006 also fit or will i have to buy a new one, also is there individual fitting kits?

Thanks

There are two Aprilia specific steering dampers from Ohlins.

p/n SD133 is for 99-03 RSVR and has a 63mm total stroke
p/n SD175 is for 04-09 RSVR and has a 65mm total stroke

There is no mounting kit per say, there are some spacers and bolts required but the actual mounts are already part of the forks & frame.

For your 08 model you will need SD175 and the kit includes the hardware.

If i was to get a 63mm damper for my bike would this work?, and what affect would it have on handling performance to the 65mm stroke unit.

Thanks again

no difference in performance, one is a bit longer, that's all.

as long as it allows full lock to lock movement, there is no problem

Can someone confirm that shorter stroke, allows full lock to lock movement??

Heard that its' not,......

Finding someone that knowingly installed the wrong damper to check for you may not be easy, especially since they both look identical.

If you already have the wrong one, install it and see for yourself. Otherwise order the correct part.

There is 63mm SD on ebay currently at 50, the SD175 for my bike is 240 new but the seller has said i can get a full refund including postage if it does not fit and not happy with it as he believes it will, so i think i will bid on it

Speaking from experience, a short lock-to-lock is a royal pain. Have you ever heard of the 'Ducati Drop?' It can happen when you try to turn around in a street and try to turn in spite of not being able to do so because you're at the end of the lock. My RS250 steering is lessened from the stabilizer and my RZ500 was too. Always bugs me.
