I thought id create a post which will let everyone show off there RS 125's.

Il start of by showing mine. Only had it a little while so it looks standard plus i have passed my restricted lisence so i haven't got the L plates on it anymore but this picture was taken when i first bought it. Im planning on making it look better soon.

Anyway thanks and i hope to see some fancy RS's ;)

I have a 2006 SR50 Factory Ditech scooter and its an absolute hoot to ride. I have had that bike up to 70MPH with stock motor. I do have a Leo pipe and Mallossi clutch and rollers. It sucks going up steep hills, but really rips on the flats.

My new Tuono 125. It's getting delivered tomorrow but i can't ride it till the 23rd:( Plans are: Tyga Stainless exhaust, Normal RS rear seat, Hel braided brake hoses, Renthals bars and grips and possibly a 34mm carb. Also i might get the wheels powdercoated white but not too sure about that.

patch what pipe is on the bike now? Anyways I really like the streetfighter look of the Tuono. The riding position is way nicer than the full on racing of the RS and I really LOVE the exposed pipe on the bottom. THat looks super.

Just the standard pipe atm. Tbh, the pipe is in really good condition seeing as its exposed to the elements and is 5 years old. Bikes getting delivered this morning:happy:

random0082
01-07-2009, 08:01 AM
various people make CF bits for the RS, including Tyga. a lot of parts are same as the old shape RS such as frame, swingarm etc, so those CF bits fit onto the new model too

patchb
01-07-2009, 03:27 PM
My tuono will be getting treated to some Tyga CF bits such as hugger, mudguard and chain guard when i've bought an exhaust. More for looks than weight saving lol.

The Cf parts on the bike are from Tyga. They are stronger, lighter, and straighter than the stock plastic parts.

I would rather have an aluminum or Titanium subframe rather than C/F bits.

Carbon is cool once you understand the constraints of construction and the designed purpose. We'll have a small selection of Carbon Fiber for the RS125 available shortly.

Regarding an Aluminum subframe, I have thought for 5 years now that that is one of the absolute most overlooked race kit parts in the entire realm of motorcycling. I'd love to get one for our racing RS50, or the newly added RS125. Huge weight saving, probably wouldn't cost anything for rigidity either. Not sure about Titanium subframe though, I've only seen one and it cracked like an ice cube at the first crash...

Im surprised you know about the SP, Most people in the UK dont really. Ive got a few of the wheels, and a shock from the SP. You still see whole SP bikes on Ebay, but there's not many left and they're getting old now, they were all made in 1997.

Plans are:possibly a 34mm carb.

if you get a bigger carb they tend to bog low down, but give top top end by about 5mph. i'm a fan of low down grunt, and mid range so thats my own personal opinion

RiejuR51
02-10-2009, 08:48 AM
erm 34mm carbs improve torque, giving more "grunt"

From what youve written, i assume whoever you heard that from, they didnt have the 34mm carb set up right

The_Reaper
02-10-2009, 08:55 AM
ahh ok i stand corrected (:
sorry...
my dad is the local aprilia/ducati/suzuki specialist, and he said that a certain sized carb on the rs doesn't make it as drivable low down, but gives 5mph top end... i can't remember what size it was tho lol...

if you're in the southend area look up ZR Motorcycles (:

Mines got powervalve fitted but standard carb & exhaust and it doesn't do much more than 80mph.

If i fit giannelli full exhaust system and 34mm carb do you think it would do a ton like a lot of other rs's out there???

TBH mine will do 90 probably but i haven't found a long enough road, i think i might invest in the goodies.

Just out of interest what bhp (roughly) is a full power bike with the rave valve but all standard extras?

And would exhaust system and 34mm carb take it up to around the claimed 33 bhp??? Or is there more to it.

I'm a nooob if you can't tell already

maxiboi247
03-26-2009, 12:40 PM
ahh right kool.
a standard full power bike probably would produce around 27/28 bhp, without the cat in the exhaust.
with the new carb and exhaust it would probly push it near to the 31/33 bhp area.
and if u wanted more you could get the cylender ported to near enough race spec and that'l give u some more hp i think

I think although our emission laws are stringent in Canada, it is more common for people to drive smaller vehicles and motorcycles than the US -- likely why we are allowed to get permits for these in Canada. 2-Strokes are on the way out though..

OMG, I wish we got fuel that high. I only put 87 in my GTI but I put 94 in the Aprilia. Gas must be ridiculously expensive there.. the gas went down here recently but in the summer it goes up as high as $1.40 / litre.

remeber guys, the RON index isnt the octane, so if your buying 97 RON pump fuel then that is roughly 87-90 octane. i remember texaco selling 105 RON locally a few years ago, not seen that for a while. thats the uk government trying to fool us.

So I guess the Ultra 94 (true 94 Octane) isn't bad then. I pay a premium for it because it is a performance grade fuel.

So what is the highest octane we can buy in UK?? And where do we get it from??

I use shell V-POWER Or BP ULTIMATE which i assumed was 97 octane?? Any idea what the octane really is??

But I think you mix sth up.
It's just an arrow silencer. Silencers don't affect the power.
But the exhaust chamber does ;) I'm using jolly moto 107 and I think it's the best what you can get on a std. bike.

But now I want to test the next stage of jolly moto exhausts; SP 111.
It's for modified engines with bigger carb etc.

Yes, we have a race harness. It is actually cut a little too short as some of the dash features do not work with the US harness.

We've been trying to get harnesses from our usual contacts in the UK, Netherlands and Germany, with no luck.

Hey, it gets the job done. It might look like it's going to fall apart, but totally gets the job done. The thing pulls nice all the way up to 100mph or so. Totally solid. The ramp is a real motorcycle ramp...good for something like 800lbs. The trailer is out of Harbor Freight and cost me all of $300 and it rated for 1100lbs, I think. I've used this trailer for all my track days (total of 7). I need to replace the plywood as it's not weather treated.

Frank, did you get some pics from your trackday? How did the Ohlins set-up go?

Didn't get any pics of the trackday, but the Ohlins set-up went pretty well. I have it set a little taller than the stock shock, so the bike really transitioned quick in the tighter turns. I think I found a good setup with the rebound and compression damping without much trouble too. There were 2 places on the track where I really noticed a big improvement with the handling, so I was happy. Looking at the sag I think the stock spring may be a bit stiff for me, but at 120lbs. I'm used to that problem. I didn't check my transponder times, but judging by the on-board lap timer I turned a few laps that set a personal best.

The forks are still using the stock spring and valving, but I've gone up to 20wt oil. I had been running 15wt, but wanted to see if I could get a little better rebound damping without making it too stiff. Seems ok, but I really need a solution that is better. I was about to call race tech to see if they'd be willing to work on the forks, but it will have to wait until I get a little more cash.

Geez, Frank! 120lbs!?!?! Really!?!?!? The spring's too stiff, huh? :)

I'm still working on what I am going to do with my suspension. I wonder if I can get a Penske that fits.

It seems from what I have read the fork dimensions are 50mm top and 53mm bottom, which is the same as a couple of Ducati forks. I think S4R and the sport classic. Both will have non-radial mounted brakes, but I bet I can find brembo with out too much problem. It's just finding forks. If I can find used S4R(sp?) that have adjustment, I think I would be ahead of the game.

hi all

im a new Australian RS125 owner as of today. i had a heavily modified 2002 model a few years ago and really missed it. saw a June 2008 model for sale at a dealer (demonstrator with 500km) and picked it up for 6990 AUD on the road which to me seems like a great deal.

my other bikes are a worked Yamaha Aerox Scoot (70cc kit clutch variator and Gianelli pipe) and a stock 848 ducati with termi pipes.

plans for the RS are to get it past 1000km and then begin heavily modding it using this form as a guide (my last bike had a ton of malossi gear and a Jolly Moto exhaust) but i bought it like that so not 100% sure what it had done.

will keep you guys posted in the meantime heres a pick of my new beast

What are they like to ride? I imagine nimble as all hell with a majority of the power up top. What kinda top speed on these? I would love to get one for my wife as she really likes the Aprilias too. Thanks for any info

Are they street legal in the states? Not strictly speaking. Doesn't mean they aren't being plated and ridden on the street. ;)

How much do they go for on average? Race-to-street trim, used-to-new, current market price seems to range from ~$4500-$7000.

What are they like to ride? Not boring, shot of adrenaline every time. :)

What kinda top speed on these? Forum consensus seems to be 100-110mph.

Awesome, answered about all my questions, are they quick enough from a stop to ride safley in traffic? I dont want my wife to get run over on this thing because its not quick enough to get out of the way...

Here's my son's, with my 250 in the background. 2008 bike, Euro 3 restricted, but now has the Zeeltronic CDI, RAVE, Gianelli exhaust, carbon can. 34mm carb to fit, plus some new reeds I daresay, unless anyone else suggests a better route.

are they quick enough from a stop to ride safely in traffic?Plenty quick.

Only issue with traffic is the peaky power + tall gearing. Requires a bit of clutch finesse to get it rolling smoothly. Need to make sure this is the wife's idea of fun. :)

very nice  love the ohlins shock, gsxr forks, and woodcraft rear sets.I see you've got the standard road shift pattern how come?

Can we see pics of the other side of the bike showing the rear brake pedal with the woodcraft rear set.And another improvement you could make to the bike would be to ditch the heavy and catted exhaust for an aftermarket one.

Thanks. It's a cool little bike and it's that much better with proper suspension.

Simply haven't taken the plunge to learn GP Shifting.

Unfortunately, I don't have a good picture of the right side of the bike, but here's what I got...
http://www.odiesystems.com/photos/Moto_Pics/RS125/Body_Work_2/100_0577.JPG

Yah, a pipe is definitely on my list of upgrades. But my first priority is to get the brakes sorted out, which means a proper MC. I have a friend who has a Brembo 16x18 that I want to buy. Once that is on there, the next thing is taking it to the track to sort out the suspension.
Then it's new tires (Pilot Powers or Pilot Power 1s) and a pipe.

In the mean time, I want to embellish the paint sceme a bike. I fancy the RSV4 race livery from last year and I want to up up with something similar, complete with a place to put race numbers (if I decide to try and race it).

out of interest odie,

are the woodcraft rear sets lighter then the oem ones.

odie_trackie
03-04-2010, 12:16 PM
Didn't weigh them, but I wouldn't think there would be a big difference. Both are aluminum. I would assume the woodcrafts would be lighter, though.

cheers odie.I thought along those same lines myself, what with them being made from the same material.

But just wondered if there would have been a noticable difference between the two.

So i guess the main advantage over the oem ones is the bit of adjustability you get,and being able to buy replacement parts, for any track damage that occurs.

cheers odie.
So i guess the main advantage over the oem ones is the bit of adjustability you get,and being able to buy replacement parts, for any track damage that occurs.
The main reason I got them is that I was hitting the stock foldable pegs from the bottom and so they would fold and I couldn't get my boots on top of the peg. I would have to try again. Just was distracting.

They also have better feel and I got a pretty good deal on them through Accu-products. But to be honest, there was a bling factor, too. I got them on my SV because I busted the stock ones and the riser plates when I crashed. needed the pegs higher. Not that necessary on the 125.

Cool. That's the same as I am running. It worked great with the GSXR caliper. Lot's of braking power, but nice, progressive and easy to modulate.

The forks weren't too bad, really. If you are reasonably light, they will probably work fine. The rear is really the weak point.

New owner of an RS125, Year 2000.

It's in peices atm, going to touch up the paint work on the fairings whilst I wait for my license to do my CBT/insurance.

Can't wait to get out on it, only 2-3 week to go!
