OK, here's an idea. On the weekend of October 18th-19th, the weekend before the clocks go back, Winter looms with doom and gloom for the biking fraternity on the horizon. So, here's an idea....at the moment we can get a return on the EuroTunnel for just 32 and be in France by 9:00am on the Saturday morning for a weekends hooning on the French coastal roads. Stop over in a hotel/motel in a French town on the Saturday night, I'm thinking Hornfleur, fill up the empty panniers the next day with cheap booze, an oversized Toblerone for the Mrs and some perfume for the mistress and back on the train to blighty and home in time for Heartbeat!

Who's in?

I need numbers pronto for accommodation.....may have to cap this hoon so first come first served and the sooner the crossings are booked the lower the cost.

May have to.....

Checked out some hotels in Hornfleur, looking at twin rooms for about 90 Euro per room, right in the centre of this beautiful French coastal town, plus 32 Chunnel, it will still be cheaper than my trip to Jockland.

Meanwhile, just dropped the R1 off at Infinity in Clapham for the 6,000 miles service with 6,200 miles showing since April 23rd.

FTM and his Mrs are also up for this one. Need to twist Hairy's arm. It's about 200 miles from Calais to Hornfleur, so not a biggy, therefore we can take a scenic route there and if necessary a more straight forward route homeward if we have over indulged on fine wines and French cuisine, which I hope to.

Harry, I have left a message with Slim, but this is one he would enjoy I reckon, so you need to work on him too.

I can't think of a nicer place to crash but I don't plan on crashing anywhere   But I will bunk at your place if thats OK with you.:worship: I can't get the day off but will be able to finish early so should be able to get there for around 8pm.

Jon, thanks for the offer but I know my way to Harry's place and it's motorway from end to end so I'll see you at the services or the tunnell entrance

Come on the rest of you wimps get yer sens cocked on :bangwall:

The Dr.Jon

OK, according to the RAC the direct route from Calais to Hornfleur is 170 miles: http://route.rac.co.uk/routeplanner.cgi?jsOption=true&lang=en_gb&qs_1=calais&countryCode_1=FR&qs_2=hornfleur&countryCode_2=FR&rtype=true&rpref=true&maptype=interactive&PlanSubmit.x=28&PlanSubmit.y=12

My suggestion would be to take a coastal scenic route on the Saturday and a quicker route home. Allowing for alcohol recovery on the Sunday morning we can knock off the miles back to Calais pretty directly with a stop off near Calais on the coast for Moules Frites. Therefore, I suggest a train home at 16:00 French time meaning we'll be back in Blighty at 15:30 UK time and as the clocks won't have gone back this should give Windy time enough to get home to Yorkshire.

I have booked 3 twin rooms and 1 double room for the FTMs in Honfleur

at 89 Euros per room, not inc. breakfast, which is 11 Euros. The hotel is right in the town, so no fannying about having to get to and from the town.

This Hoon organising malarkey is a doddle!

For those "men" doing the summer :WTF: Autumn Hoon  you might want to look at these, no point spending 3 or 4 times the amount from a bike shop.

For a late October late evening ride I reckon I'll be needing a set

BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co. KG, commonly known simply as Rotax, is an Austrian engine manufacturer, founded in 1920 (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/1920) in Dresden (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Dresden), Germany (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Germany).
Operations were moved to Wels (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Wels), Austria (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Austria) in 1943 (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/1943) and finally to Gunskirchen (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Gunskirchen) in 1947. In 1959, Rotax merged with the Vienna-based Lohner-Werke, a manufacturer of car and railway wagon bodies. In 1970 (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/1970) Lohner-Rotax was bought by Bombardier (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Bombardier), who uses Rotax engines in their motorcycles (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Motorcycle), personal water craft (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Personal_water_craft), and snowmobiles (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Snowmobile).
The company constructed only two-stroke (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Two-stroke_cycle) engines until 1982 (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/1982), when it started building four-stroke (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Four-stroke_cycle) engines and aircraft engines (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/Aircraft_engine). Other important dates include 1962 (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/1962), when a Rotax engine was first installed in a snowmobile and 1989 (http://www.powerset.com/explore/semhtml/1989), when Rotax received Type Certification for its 912 A aircraft engine.

The route is a mixture of motorway, coast road and some inland roads, riding through plenty off towns/villages for Coffee/Fag breaks. The motorway will be used to clear Calais, Boulogne and the last few miles into Honfluer. If weather is good and we're making good progress the route can be tweaked as we go along.

Will all those taking part please pm me your address so I can forward details of the route, Im just waiting for approval from the Dr, once hes cast his critical eye over the route Ill make any alterations he suggests then mail you all a copy.

As it's a 2 day splash and dash hoon It would be good if we take turns at leading so we all get chance to relax a little. Also we won't have time to go chasing round after anyone that gets split up from the main party so if we all know the route we know we'll all be able to get to the Hotel.

Don't forget your breakdown cover, just because it's only a 2 day trip doesn't mean you won't need it.

:WTF:The first section out of Calais to Boulogne is ace if you hug the coast! Up and down the roads that skirt the cliffs with some twisties and great views. I brought the chaps back that way from Euro Hoon 2007 and we stopped off for Moule Frites in Wimereaux and it was ace.

Gonna have to look carefully at you route now.....MOTORWAY....??

Yer, I know but how many riders did you have ? and it was summer, and you didn't have a lady rider, how fast is Mrs FTM ?

Anyhow the route includes Wimereaux, I was just clearing Calais by a few miles, comiming off at J12 on to the D243 to the coast.

Jon, you should know better than most that planning a route to suit ten riders, some we haven't ridden with and in what could be bad weather conditions isn't easy and will never suit all.

SO!, If you don't like the route, scrap it and plan the route yer sen, and we'll all follow your R1 so you can claim not to have been passed by anyone......

OK, looked at the route....not bad lad....:bump:

Presumably you did that on yer Euro map on't computer? How many miles is it??

We can maybe pick a route from Bolbec to Honfleur off the M'way depending on time. You do know you have to PAY on the motorways, eh?

If any of the group want to see some of the museums of the Normandy landings on route they will see more of those towards the coast, but the in land bits may be quieter for hoonage, but there's a lot of junctions and it's more difficult for people to orientate themselves if they get lost than a coastal route, but as I will have the route written on me tank bag and will be following you, then I won't get lost!

Now stop sulking!:bump:

I've booked another room for Argentifa et al and I've made a dinner reservation for 10 to eat at 19:00 local time.

All the routes have too many junctions, I think they're unavoidable when cutting across country. There should be some museums close to the route and sign posted so we can make a detour if anyone wants to visit or go off route on the day then pick it up again further on.

Alot of the route is on the D940 and I've listed Towns/Villages along the way on all roads so people can aim for them if they get split from the main party.

Agreed, there is a nicer route from BolBec if we haven't run out of time we can go D910 (D39 [looks interesting]) D17 over the Seine N182 N178 D312 D580 which is the road the Hotel is on.

I'll print and mail the route as it is along with a street map of the last few hundred yards to the Hotel.

BTW I don't sulk but I'm always happy to stand aside if there is someone that can do a better job of someting than I can because I hate it when someone comes along with hind sight saying I could have made a better job of that, as we all could with hind sight.

Stick it out. I reckon they'll at least have a limited service by mid to late October. Anyhow can't we ride the bikes through the service tunnel if we promise to keep the noise down.:happy:
