View Full Version : I have some sputtering at 7-8,000 rpm.

I have 13,300 miles riding mostly double on my oem clutch and springs.
I know I have to try white and red contra springs on my new bbk.

Could my sputtering be due to a tired oem contra spring?

I usually ride double with my girl and think a red contra spring may be for me instead of the white.
Am I getting this backwards?
Should it be white?

I love the red contra, but I don't think the sputtering is contra, clutch, related. I was having an intermittent sputter in that range while backing off the throttle, so I changed my plug to a PMR8A(indexed at/towards injector) from CR7EIX(indexed away from injector). Plug was perfect after 300 miles on the new BBK. I also added back the first portion of the snorkel in the airbox(removed the accordian vacuum tube portion & restricter connector piece that has the zip tie around it). Tonights ride had no sputter in that range while decellerating, with nice operating results & idle. Kinda weird though, as when I come to a stop, it idles at 3k for about 3seconds, then drops down to a purr at 2K. Sounds delicious too. Try a different plug. I'm gonna try a PMR7A(my tried trued & trusted plug of choice).
