I am trying to change gear oil on my 09 sr50 but i cant get the gray transmission cover off. I have removed all the bolts on the outside edge of the cover, but it still wont come off. What am I missing?

I had a little trouble getting mine off my 09. A thin putty knife at the back and front and it will come right off. There are a couple of sleeves on the cover that slide into the case. Just a nice snug fit.

Light taps with a rubber mallet works well too. Won't skuff the finish and applies plenty force.

There are a couple of tabs that you can tap with a rubber hammer or anything as long as you pad it with something so as not to ding it. I think I used the handle of a rubber handled screwdriver. One it starts moving, you can work it back and forth and it comes off.

You dont need to take it off for the 09's. The drain plug and fill plug/dipstick are on the outside

They were on the outside on all the previous SR50's too. All you have to do is remove the plastic vario cover to get to the drain plug and fill plug. Dipstick?? The `09's have a dipstick?

Yep we have a dipstick. And it's near the rear rim, no need to fidget with the vario cover at all.

Sorry I am at work and cant take pics.

After a furious hour working on this thing I realized I am a complete retard and that you in fact do not have to take anything off. ITs as simple as a a hex nut at the bottom of the transmission. Well i guess thats practice for when my exhaust and rollers finally get here.

Thanks for the help everyone

I did the same thing lol. I took it all apart, looked in there and realized there was no oil drain. After some head scratching and poking around (and an hour of work) I noticed that it was a 5 minute job not requiring and removal of any covers.

I posted this a couple days ago in a reply to the DIY or How to do you
own transmission oil thread.
