Hello i just bought a 09 sr50 yesterday in white. A buddy of mine has a 06 that got me intrested in them. I mainly got it to commute back and forth to work since my job is only about 10 mins from where i live. Also i have a nissan 240sx which i have done alot of work done to and continue to work on so when it is down i can use the scooter. Im a complete noob to scooters really ive been scearching around and trying to read what simple things i could do to have a little better performance but im unsure about the new 09s i think i understand they use a different motor from the past several years so im not sure if the same mods work or have been made for these but i will try to do some more research on them and read what others are doing, anyway just wanted to intoduce myself as a new scooter owner Thanks.

Hey, welcome. I would stop messing with your car, and start modding your
scoot! It costs much less to pimp a scoot. Repairs are relatively inexpensive
also.

Welcome!

Im learning just as you are. Here are some pointers.

The 2009 in the US uses the piaggio engine. Previous models in the US for SR50's used the morini engine. While it's new here in the US the piaggio has been the standard engine used on SR50 R Factory's in europe since 2005. So there are a ton of mods available, but most of them have to be acquired through european websites like scooter attack, sip, etc. Although AF1 who sponsors this site is slowly bringing in parts for the 09 model.

Read the FAQ. It has a wealth of info, even for the 09's

sounds good thanks for the tips.

and yes MR. Scootswell i see how inexpensive it is really, so i do want to start modding it soon but the part im confused about are all the different weights of the rollers and springs and such. i wanna try to get an exhaust pipe coming up but are there other things you have to change in order to get the optimal gains from it, thanks for the welcome guys.

The first mod is to de-regulate it, after the 300 mile break-in. The $180 replacement racing shock, and a chrome expansion chamber/pipe are good mods to consider next. Those should keep you happy for a few years, or 6,000 miles (whichever comes first). I suspect you will find diminishing returns on money spent, after the mentioned mods. Are side-stands standard on the new models now? I also have the Aprilia quick-release trunk on my 2001. I consider it a must-have.

Always check with your dealer for his recommendations, in case he needs to warranty anything for you.

My fiance would kill me if I brought the scoot in the house!

Rollers - Piaggio size is 19 x 15.5 - Stock weight is 5.5gr (I've also heard 5g, can anyone who has weighed them confirm?) Anytime you see people post set ups here with 6.8gr or 7gr rollers, they have a different engine.

When you get an exhaust you typically want lighter roller weights. I'm using 4.3 now but Im going to try 4.75 soon.

I have weighed my weights, and they are 5.4g. I'm not sure that is
what everyone has in thier 09's, but its FACT for me.

I'll take that for fact for me as well then since everytime I've seen people post 5g, they havent actually weighed them

Cool, to confirm I weighed all 6 and the total weight was 32.4. To verify
calibration on my cheapo Harbor Frieght pocket scale I weighed the BGM
rollers that i have, and they were spot on also.

You keep posting pics of a chill ride like that and your quesstions will never get answered

There are three POSSIBLE restrictions on the 09. There's the ecu that needs to be remapped. It's possible your dealer already did this since you hit 48mph. There's a restrictor ring in the variator. And there's a restriction plate on the throttlebody.

Call your dealer and ask if all three were done. There's also guides on here on how to find and remove the last two, but Im too tired to look at the moment.

Thanks very much i will give them a call, hopefully the ecu is set up already so i can do the other stuff and order an exhaust soon.

Mike?

Now thats pretty awesome. I should have know when you said you had a B13 in that other thread.

We are in the presence of a tuner legend.

We should start a sr20 picture thread... lol.

I got one of these SR50's because I wanted to study the orbital engine mostly for another project. Then I started to mess around with it. This is a pretty fun scooter and it breaks off all of the other small scooters around here with ease.

Haha a SR20 thread hijacking!

This is a great forum!
