okay thanks, as for the gasket, is a new one 100% needed when you get a new exhaust, or just recommended or what?

01dabreoo
06-18-2008, 10:42 AM
Depends if your lucky really, you should change it every time you take the exhaust off, but some people get away with keeping the old one.

I tried to get away with keeping mine as i had only replaced them about a month before hand, but it blew like mad lol.

You only have 1, is cheap for you :p:

You sure it's not sure a tight fit? They're ment to be a bit of a squeeze.

06-18-2008, 11:19 AM
its too small to fit over the round bit(bit in the picture) infront of the metal piece that you can move around if you know what i mean ? :S

or is it supposed to just rest on the round bit? hmm

bourney2007
06-18-2008, 11:52 AM
Yeah it's a restrictor mate, they are on the exhaust so they can legally be sold in the U.K. to 16yr olds.
Just tap it out.

It's meant to be small i think as it will extend when you push the exhaust onto the engine.
If you know what i mean.

Nice pink cushion by the way lol

06-18-2008, 12:02 PM
okay i'll have a look at the old one, see what condition its in, and if its the same size as this one i'll go from there.

they normally just have a rubber o ring that sits in a groove around the end of the exhaust and the springs hold it tight to the head.

your garage has a car in it:eek: lol

My mum and dad have never put the car in the garage so i get that to keep my bike in and work on it. Got loads of tools and stuff in there and my stereo.

Get your dad's car keys, reverse the car out of the garage. Put your bike in and don't stop working on it until you've fitted the exhaust and that neon.
So within an hour you can be driving the car back in.
Pissing down with rain, what are you a man or mouse?

Rs50_2007kris
06-18-2008, 03:21 PM
i am infact, a mouse.

i'll just do it tomorrow in the garden, or take it to our workshop in the evening.

Nice exhaust mate, I wanna get one of them, prefer a Giannelli though
Mines 2005 and it needs a gasket from the manifold to the actuall exhaust part, it's taking ages to come and it's the last part I need! :)

No you need the full system. Just putting an end can on makes absolutley jack shit difference. In fact if you look at the graphs in the sticky it actually lowers the performance slightly.
You need the expansion chamber. That's what provides you with the extra power not the end can.

cool, well thats all i'll be buying for it, dont want to be fiddling round with carb, jets, air filters etc.. will end up messing something up. also the standard exhaust on the rs's is stupidly heavy, and has two seperate restrictors which is shit, so really i've wanted an exhaust from day1

bourney2007
06-19-2008, 04:55 PM
if you don't want to mess around with jets then don't fit that exhaust.

Rs50_2007kris
06-19-2008, 04:57 PM
uh oh, am i gonna have to rejet it ? fuuuuuuuuck

but loads of my friends have fitted performance exhausts and never had to re-jet.

You have to re-jet for every performance item you fit to your bike.
If your mates havn't re-jetted they're either running rich, so not running the bike to it's full potential, or running lean so their engine will be screwed soon.

It's not hard though don't worry about it. Buy some jets. Do a plug chop. Read your plug and re-jet accordingly.

luigi1991
06-19-2008, 05:00 PM

it will need upjetting

Rs50_2007kris
06-19-2008, 05:14 PM
is there any way the mixture can be richen'ed up without changing the jet?

bradders
06-19-2008, 07:11 PM
I don't think so.. there's a thing on the carb to allow more air I think?
But then you'd need a bigger jet, to compensate for more air =/
If your dads a mechanic he should be able to do it, or your local motorcycle garage

rs50 '03 steve
06-20-2008, 05:51 AM
drop the carb needle or lift it up, one of the two.
i think lifing it up richens it and dropping it leans it.

Rs50_2007kris
06-20-2008, 01:03 PM
it's all okay :), exhaust on, neons fitted, did a plug chop and its running fine so should be all okay. Got '61' out of it down the road at like 10k rpm, but ran out of road to test it properly.

What jet have you got on it at the moment. You have being running the bike before you did the plug chop right. So did you clean the plug? some people say you don't have to but i would if i were you. Just give it a good clean over so it's quite shiny and then do the plug chop again. There's no way you should be able to fit that exhaust system and not have to re-jet.

yeah i know that now haha, when i went to buy all my gear from my local dealer, they told me it would be 2 year warranty, i asked them if they could put a new return spring in the gear box cause its screwed and they said yeah, and i was like is the warranty void because i fitted my new exhaust today and stuff, and they said to me 'aprilia won't know its fine' and they're gonna to the return spring and shit under warranty, so its all good.

TBH ive used both in the past and theres nothing really between them, both good build quality and good power, the gianelli probably sounds slightly raspier, the metrakit deeper.pjme are the muts nuts and dont sell kit that doesnt work! they sell them on ebay too.
