I have just bought a 2nd hand rear shock for my MX50 as the old one didnít have any damping because it had leaked all its oil out. I fitted the 2nd hand one just now but the bloody thing is just as bad as my old 1. My dads says with car shock absorbers that if they are stored upside down then they donít work until the oil and gas sort themselves out

Does this apply with bike shock absorbers? as it hasnít leaked any oil and the person was breaking the bike but he said it still worked when he took it off the bike

the shock absorber will have either oil or gas,not both,if its oil filled it is possible that in storage the oil needs to return to its original place in the shock and flow through the valves but this usually only takes a couple of strokes of the shock absorber.
