I'd get to your dealer ASAP! That could be expensive to fix, and should be covered under warranty.

Sounds like a loose ground.

Sort of an unrelated question, but I've wondered what will happen to that thing when it sits out in the hot sunlight all day while I'm at work in the summer.

No problem, I do it all the time.

I try and park in a bit of sun on purpose, cause I notice in the shade the digidash can condense a bit.

My digidash has no problems, and sits out in the sun quite frequently, but I do have a scoot cover to keep the tree sap & bird crap off the scoot. Its the same concept as depth/fish finders on boats, or, TFT display?

I know you are far from your dealer, but you should take it in.

The other option you have to check that all the wires on nice and tight, maybe something become loose.

BTW, I think someone posted something about the ECU screwing up because water got at it somehow.

I had a few things fixed/replaced under warranty. The dash had a little condensation under the glass and one time it got stuck at 2k rpm for about 30 seconds. I told my dealer and they ordered a new dash and replaced it under warranty. I only had about 400 miles on it. When I got it back it showed zero miles. With only 400 who cares? I don't know if they can reset the odometer!?
