View Full Version : How did you get your Username / Screen Name?

How did you get your Username?

My parents gave me mine. ;) Seriously though, when I first started posting on message boards, I noticed that a grand master of my sport was going by his real name. Figured if it was good enough for him, it should be good enough for me. Using my real name also helps reminds me not to write anything I would not say to someone face to face. Some boards don't allow the space character as part of the username, and I end up as Jim_Hubert.

Probably because I am so uncreative in this area, I am fascinated by the variety and ingenuity of usernames.

How did you get your's, and what does it mean?

I use MickyC51 cause my name is Micky Curry and 51 is my race number in the Loudon Road Race Series. I use that as my e-mail name and I've gotten used to using that as any kind of screen name I need on the internet. Mainly because I have a short memory. I keep telling my kids my brain is full, they have other reasons in miind. I always sign my posts cause like you I don't want to accidentally say something I wouldn't say face to face, and since I'm on a couple of mailing list and have been on a few others (MC related) over the years I occasionally run into someone I know.
I also tend to give more credibility to someone who isn't anonymous. Yes I know this may be just a personal quirk but I'm chock full of personal quirks.

I want to use my real name because I think my posts reflect who I am and that it shows that I take riding/discussing riding seriously.

Simply, I dont feel like I haveto hide behind a alias :)

Another thing is that during my gaming days, as I got more famous, people started comming up to me on parties or when I was just out on town and scream "Look here! Its *my old i-net nickname*!" (which was nowhere near my real name). That, truely sucks. :)

My grandfather owned and operated a small trucking company and occasionally drove his own truck.
Back it the day when CB radios were just coming into there own I guess and his "HANDLE" (AKA Username) was "Conman" which was given to him by one of his employees "Teddy". after he passed away in 2002 I started using it as a Tribute of sorts I guess. it just reminds me of him and brings back memories sometimes. like now, for instance!
as far as my real name, I never really thought about it as hiding or misleading someone (Conman, oh the Irony)

Kim is my first name. Male! This is what happens when the mom goes for the drugs during birth! They will blurt out any name with total disregard to gender! zx1000r is a ninja that I have had since 1986! The old girl loves a good thrashing! But what a porker in todays standards! Last name for the records Harden.

This is going to be the best thread in a while, I'm betting on lots of participation. I own and operate a small concrete pumping business, and the finishing crews started calling me "PUMPMAN" in the early years (been at it 13+ yrs). I am also a licensed structural engineer (36 yrs), but "geek" didn't sound as good. I admire you for using your real name, but I guess I didn't do it because of security/identity theft risks. The world is full of crazies now, and we are talking to the whole world here.

Most identity theft is committed by relatives. I figure since my wife already knows my name you guys are a piece of cake. That doesn't mean I'm gonna start posting my ATM pincode so don't get your hopes up.

I owned lots of motorcycles, but the first one I bought that I took seriously was an RZ350. I used to go into the showrooms and stare at them, but $2,399 was still a little out of my grasp. Eventually I found a really clean one in a dealership that I could finance. I rode that thing everywhere.

As time went on I came across another one, then I started collecting them. Then I got my first RZ500 and then I'd have to get every one I came across, keeping the best and letting go the rest. My name's Rob, the guy with the RZs and soon I just became RZ Rob. When email started to proliferate, I initially was communicating with motoheads and going by RZ Rob made it easy to know who I was. Way back in the '90s I secured http://www.rzrob.com which is just a parking spot. I've never used it for much.

sorry fella's nothing real fancy here, and NO it's not about Ducati's. I like shooting thing's out of the sky....if it flies..it die's :D hence duc slayer. I had used my real name when I first joined the site (99-00 ?), but when they switched the entire format of the forum (back in 03 maybe) I switched to something different and not because I'm afraid to say anything to anyone's face

After lurking around the 99-03 Mille forum for years and reading i had to have either a RXV or SXV 550. Since was a first generation bike I thought I'd join the forum to help/hurt the development of these bikes. I got the bike and started changing things on it immediately. My fiancée suggested that I slow down a bit before I made myself poor and it stuck with me hence RXV_POOR. I just spend too damn much money on that (Read all of my) bike(s).

No offense but I don't know if anyone is using their real names. Just the names that are posted. I always try to be polite because it is more or less my nature.

Not to toot our own horns but this site seems to have a good group of users to share information and I would have been lost many times without it.

My fiancée also suggested I got get a KTM if I wanted one also, so I went and got 2. Yeah she's a keeper.

Google "irie" to see what it means, it's difficult to explain.

back in my downhill mountain bike racing days I owned a Cannondale Gemini 3000 which came stock with a sun ringle abbah rear hub.... it sounded like a million pissed off crickets chirping all at once.... Lemisnicket I believe was the cricket from Pinocchio. One of my the guys I ride with quite a bit coined the name Geminisnickets which was then shortened to Gsnickets. I've used that name for everything now.

Nothing to do with bikes at all. 'cyb' is my initials, I really liked reading Asimov as a kid, and his "cyborgs" cybernetic organisms, aka androids these days. I got a real kick out of Kryten, the wacked out android on the old UK comedy series Red Dwarf, so his image is my android/cyborg avatar. Make sense?

good call... I don't think I've ever fully read or watched the story of Pinocchio... the only reason I got the spelling right was because of the spell checkers on firefox. Looks like the name was actually a combination of the two eh? it was never very clear, the guy did a lot of drugs so we never really questioned him too much when he came up with stuff.

I got into the internet thing late myself. I guess that is not 100% true. As a 10-12 year old me and my buddy Ryan used to log onto BBS's during the real infancy of the net. We had discovered that there were naked pictures that you could download on a 4 bod modem. We would wait all night as a single pic came through the phone line as our parents slept. Line by line, pixel by pixel we waited patiently. Then it was recorded to one or more giant floppy disks and stashed where we kept our prized porn magazines collection for later independent viewing.

I then only much later re-discovered the internet, after college and such. ApriliaForum, which Ed and I founded in our apartment was the first "forum" I ever registered on. In a moment of sheer creativity I came up with my username and now some variation of that is used by everyone that either works for us or has worked with us.

I use the same name on www.nsxprime.com , CycleForums, WERA, CMRA, the MR2 forum, the Supra Forum...etc. Helps me keep it all straight.

Hi Micah, just wanted to say "Thanks!" for hosting this forum. Not sure where I would get technical information about the SXV/RXV without it.

I hope it is good for your bottom line, and that it remains available. I know it is not a trivial expense (both in time and $$$) to maintain a site this large.

Thanks again.
