Think it's a parkingbrake. With the auto tranny you can't put it in first gear when parking up or downhill.

Ejection seat??

A parking brake makes sense, but what exactly does it lock? Tranny? Brakes?

It locks the tranny. Since the Mana has an automatic gearbox you cannot
put it into gear if parking on a slope.

I'd agree that it is a parking brake, as it is the same casting as is used for the same function on the Piaggio MP3 scooter. However, I doubt it locks the tranny. More likely is that it is the user end of a cable actuator for the rear brake caliper.

As such, the rider may need a fair degree of presence of mind to avoid riding off with it still engaged. I've seen two-up MP3 250's ridden off with the parking brake still engaged, and have yet to meet an MP3 owner who has yet to fall into this trap even with the "idiot light" on the dash. If you've got 850cc on tap, the chances of riding away with the rear caliper locked on is only going to be increased.

That way you would not be able to start the bike with it engaged.

Knock Knock.... you listening Aprilia????

If you look at the location, I think its about where your knee is. And I think it would be hard to drive away with it stabbing you in the leg.

I think it's a meat hook... designed to tear your leg apart when you crash and burn :fangs: obviously!
