I located a brand new 2005 Tre that I can buy for $12,500. Did the 05's have the bugs worked out or should I stay as far away from one as possible?

Don't! Check the Benelli forum in the net. Also wait till the Chinese management fix their problems. Unless they give you a good looking asian umbrella girl with it, buy it!:)

Benelli Forum (http://p222.ezboard.com/bbenelliforum). Its an awesome looking bike. Couple of dealers in Cali. What I heard is that engine and tranny are pretty reliable. Some bolts may rust. Do check out more on Benelli Forum. By the way that is a steal at that price

I would buy one from a batch that was brought in by Benelli USA not a grey market one. Wait for the 1130 Tornado. Better components, most of the bugs have been worked out and you'll get vouched for 100% support from Motopoint who are the US importer.

BTW that benelliforum link is an old one. Here is the new site:

Can anyone confirm or deny a bad fuel management system problem with the newer Benellis? I've read some things in European sportbike mags but not a whole lotta stuff over here.

If so, Would a PCIII or a Tuneboy with a good map resolve it?

Certainly a unique bike though...

Buy a scooter and paint it a really horrible colour that you'd be embarrassed to be seen on. At least then you'll have the chance to ride it and hopefully it'll meet the above criteria.
They feel like an old ZX6R F engine with a knackered spark plug in a late 900ss chassis to ride. The brakes are better though. Triples always feel like they have a misfire at the best of times anyway.
I grip with my knees a lot and I started cracking the big silver panels - there's no support to the panels there - within a few miles.

aside from being a rare motorcycle and italian it has no appeal to me. It's just so ugly lol
