Coatings on head and pistons. Chasing 155 HP

Has anyone had any experience with heat coating on cylinder heads and pistons, We did it on 950 hp race boat motors and made good gains, ran more timing and the engine ran much cooler, there was no downside at all that we saw
Have made an agreement with my self that by next summer, I will see 155 at the rear wheel as measured on a dyno-jet dyno.

Talking to Smalt Moto 150 with a 1060 is very achievable with one of their new full systems, (Have one ordered for the record) (anyone want an Apropovic full system) so really only have to go chase 5. I think a little more lift and some coatings should easily do that

Cheers
Jason

How available is ethanol in your area? That stuff has about 115 octane. You could mix it with High test and bump up your compress/advance your timing....

Just a thought.

Nah, want to do it on our 98 gas, Dont worry, I will find it, just not completely sure exactly how just yet. We have been experimenting wit fuel blends and made quite surprisingly large gains just lately, I will post that shortly when I have finished thinking about it. Used it in thew race boat and made about 4% gain but just finished a dyno run a few days ago with a 990 and made 9 %.

Will let you know
Jas

I see you're planning a fun project with an optimistic but possibly achievable HP goal.

My advice to you is:

-don't listen to people who are quick to tell you what you want to hear (because they want to sell you something).
-when looking for accurate info (like camshaft specs), measure it for yourself.
-use the Akrapovic EVO6 exhaust, the one with oval cans, not hex.
-stick with the stock cast camshafts, not the early 2004 4-piece cams.
-no port work is better than bad port work (most port work I've tested made less HP than stock ports).
-tune for midrange power/torque, not max RPM HP numbers on a Dyno sheet. Your motor will live longer and be more fun to ride.

If you are going all out with coatings, look into the diamond-like-coatings(DLC) from firms like Baelzers, Calico, etc. for the crank journals, bearings, cam lobes, piston/cylinder walls, rings, valve stems, etc. Not only do DLCs reduce internal friction by some ridiculous amounts (like 1000%) but they essentially eliminate wear on said internal parts. Figure about $1,000 for a 4-cylinder engine.

We are up for a rebuild on the race car engine after the 2010 season and we plan on DLCing as much as feasibly possible.

These motors react very nicely to boost, the newest version of the Team Punisher bike should be about 190-200bhp on the FP dyno we use here at the shop. Boost is up a bit with shorter inlet duration, probably clip 13 psig at 11k rpm. The best previous test was 180 bhp on the FP dyno. This is about 250-260 on a Dynojet.

I use smaltmoto 60mm on my bike its work nice it gives about same gains like acra 60mm with 1060cc but are abit heavyer, you need cut a small bit of ther faring to make it fitt ok. In Sweden acra 60mm cost much more than smaltmoto 60mm i dont know how its are in Auckland.

In U.S its about same(price on acra vs smaltmoto) thats why acra is beter to buy there.

I hate to put down any product, but I also hate to lie.

I was not impressed with the Smalt I installed on a 08 Tuono Fact for a
customer last year.
Very poor fit, poor quality hangers (compared to Akro), very heavy headers and same price as the EVO-6.

Installing the Smalts took much longer than the EVO.

If you're going for big bore and trying for the max power, the EVO-6 with 65mm tubes and 65mm oval muffers is far superior, especially for the same money.

Sorry, I don't mean to spoil it for those who like the Smalt.
