    anyone used these

Im going to put the bike up for the winter and work on it a bit. I currently dont have any stands for it but was looking to get some.

Just wondering who has the tripple tree held ones, and who has the bottom fork held ones...

Im thinking the tripple tree ones might make it easier to work on, anyone know if they get in the way of the front fairing ?

Pros and cons to each of them?

heres a picture of the one im thinking about.

I find that the stand that lifts the bottom of the fork legs far more convenient for every day use and airing or changing tires. The only thing the other type gives you is the ability to remove the fork tubes. You cannot service or adjust the steering bearings though. For that you have to support the frame somewhere else. I bought the Pit Bull fork stand and then the adapter that lifts the stem. Shortly after that I built a stand that supports the frame so I could service the steering and I have not used the stem adapter since.

If I had it to do over again and was trying to decide between a dedicated triple tree stand or a fork stand with triple tree adapter I would definitely choose the latter. The fork stand is just so easy and convenient to use and you would have the adapter to remove the fork legs.

I have both. The fork bottom lift stand is convenient for all maintenance other than fork service. The one that lifts using the steering stem requires the removal of the plastic plate on the upper fairing where the brake lines pass through. I only use it when I need to work on the forks but if you do any work like adjusting the steering head bearings, you need to take the weight off the front end in order to re-install the top triple clamp. The plastic plate is a royal PITA to remove. I have the Lockhart stand that converts my Lockhart rear stand into a steering stem lift. It works but I use the front end stand more often just due to tire change neccessity.....sean

    Front stand

I personally use the stand that goes up the triple, it seems more stable than the one that goes below the forks.

thanks for the replies so far guys...

about the plastic plate, can you maybe just drill a hole in it for the peg to go through, or do you think it has to be removed completely?

Im thinking about getting the front fork stand with the tripple lift attachment, that way i have either choice.

I wont be doing much fork service unless something happens... i was thinking more for the storage purchase, keepin the weight off the forks while not being ridden. But i suppose thats probably not a big deal.

Are they both about the same for taking the tire off?

You can trim the plastic plate under the lower triple but you also have to trim or remove the piece between the radiators.

I've never worried about unloading the forks. After all, the rear does not get unloaded with the typical rear paddock stand.

The only solid bridge between the lower fork ends is the axle so once removed their movement is not necessarily equal. if you were on uneven ground there might be a little bother getting the axle back in but I've never had a problem with it.

I've alway used the type that go under the forks. Always with a rear stand already in place, never thad any problems with stability or fork loading just nearly always sh*t myself when taking the bike off the rear stand

Instead of using a front stand for fork work, has anyone tried using a jack and a block of wood under the engine in combination with a rear stand?

It's hard to find a perch for the jack with the exhaust and oil cooler lines.

    Got some photos?

Trying to support the bike is a ROYAL pain in the ass.. there's really nowhere to support under there!
