    Boots....

    Hey all,
I was surfing around the net today looking for some casual riding boots for those times when I'm not in full leathers. Anyway, I found some interesting options from both Alpinestars, Sidi and Thor. I really like both the Sidi and the Thor boots for the simple fact that they look well constructed and not cheap. The Thor 50/50's are pretty nice and even though they're marketed as off road boots they look comfortable enough for on road use. They're about the same price as the Sidi's and the Alpinestars. Anyone have any experiences with the Alpinestars Recon boots or the Sidi Doha boots? I won't be getting either until I go back through Japan and check out Ricoland again to see what they have. I saw some XPD's there (Spidi) that looked pretty cool.

On a related note, while doing this searching around, I found Dennis Kirk is having a sale on Alpinestars SMX Race boots. All colors on sale for $169. If you're in the market for a new pair or just want a pair for back up, here's a good chance to get them fairly cheap. For the record, I don't have any affiliation with Dennis Kirk or any other internet dealer. I post a good deal for others information and possible use when I see one.......sean

What your flip flops aren't casual enough, they'd match your shorts and tank top better. Are you just looking for something to wear when just riding down to the store, into work, buddy's house, etc. while wearing jeans and riding jacket, for that situation I'd think your work boots would be good, or something for touring around while in aerostitch or similar?

I don't remember what model they were but a bout 3-4 years ago I had a pair of Alpinestars casual riding shoes. They were bascaily lace up high tops, they were light and fairly comfy but after about a year the tongue on one of them ripped out. Hopefully their quality has improved.

They have a JR on close-out for about $70 that looks ok, too.

I have a pair of Alpinestars already. Picture above. They're ok. They don't fit quite right but they are plenty comfy none the less. I'm just looking for something a bit better. I did plenty of checking around but nothing really looked like what I was after. The problem with many of the ones I've seen is that they look no better, nor any different from many of the combat/flight boots that I have for work. I'm not interested in that look. I'm looking for something that has a shift pad on the toe, heel and ankle protection and comfortable enough to walk around in all day. The Alpinestars that I currently have fit that bill pretty well, except for the walk around all day part. They get way too hot way too soon once I'm off the bike. I looked at Motophoria, Joe Rocket, Dainese, Sidi, Thor, Alpinestars, Set Up, ICON and a few others. The only ones I've found so far that I'm interested in are the Thor 50/50's and the Sidi Doha boots. The Alpinetars Recon boot looks too much like a combat boot and it looks cheaper made than any combat boot that I already own. Besides, I've crashed in combat boots before and they don't hold up real well. The Joe Rocket looks too much like the ICON boot to me......sean

You could also look at Oxtar Jupiter II GTX Boot. I think the problem you're going to have is that alot of these casual riding boots have gore-tex liners in them which is great if the weather's crappy but just walking around your feet will get hot. Check out http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...115&Division=1 They have a good selection with pics and info.

I use the Oxtar Matrix - super comfortable, hard armor, waterproof and 100% leather. GoreTex liner makes 'em breathe really well (I've never had a case of sweaty foot, and I'm ALWAYS hot...) and did I mention comfortable?? And best of all, you don't look like a Power Ranger reject.

I know this is off topic but while I was surfing around motorcycle superstore I noticed they're having a sale on tires. You can pick up a pair of Pirelli Diablos for about $200. They also have the new Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's, the new dual compund tire for a decent price.

Here are the Thor 50/50's. I think I'd go with this color also. The white ones look alright but they'd be gray after a few rides. The black and gray aren't too bad lookin' either. I'm still not sure but I may get these or the Doha boots.....sean.....these are more like what I'm after, they look very similar to my Alpinestar casual boots. I hadn't seen the Jupiter II before . Thanks...I'll add them to my list.

Do you get Daytona Journey XCR's over there? Steel shank in the sole, leather outer, GoreTex XCR liner...
They might not be pretty but those other things from Alpinestars and Oxtar look like wierd hiking boots with lumpy toes.

At the moment, I can't get anything, not even access to Vlad's website. I'm still deployed in the Gulf and most websites are blocked. I'm lucky I can still come here and post. I foresee a time when that privelege will be blocked as well but I'll take advantage of being able to come here as long as I can. Thanks for the tips on the Vendraminis and Daytonas. I'll search around and see if I can actually find them on another site so I can see them......sean

I like both of those you posted pics of they look comfy. The steal toed Wolverine boots are suppose to be a motorcycle boot but the only thing different from their other boots is the sole in front of the heel, a shift pad would be nice since I'm syarting to get a hole, more of a nick and some how a matching one on the brake side Those tennis shoe looking ones you could fit some fat laces so you can hang with the younger HD crowd
