Question Newbie to Aprilia.....and the fabulous world of twin performance......but....

    Hi guys!
Well...I've taken the plunge and retired from riding Kwaks and stepped over to giving the twins a go......recently acquired a virtually new 03 RSVr and I have to say...where have I been?? Ok I admit its gonna take me a little longer to adjusting riding style to suit the different delivery and performance but boy, I never thought I'd get that "grin" factor back in riding...these things rock! all that wonderful torque and "grunt"!
As of yet I have no issues with bike or needing advice as such on anything except for one gripe...albeit a little one....the side stands on these things just seem....well..crap for want of a better word!
Does anyone know of maybe an alternative side stand replacement? It worries me even using the one fitted, has anyone else had the same issue with them?? Maybe I'm being paranoid about it...its an age thing
Love the forums and the advice you guys give...keep it up

Nope...can't think of a better word really.

Just take the time to double check it's down before letting go of the bike.
Do I speak from experience?? oh yes.

I've never given the sidestand on my '01 a second thought. It goes up, it goes down, and the bike has never fallen over. What am I missing that $140 billet stand will give me, other than bling?

What part of the world are you on? Not sure why but for some reason aprilia fits different side stand arrangements for different markets. The stands fitted on the US bikes seem to work acceptably well for everyone here. Here is an old thread with all the particulars including part numbers:

thanks for your help guy's....I agree that the stand in the AFI store looks neat and maybe a bit "blingy" but a bit pricey for me! I'm in the UK KZ...it seems from what I can gather, that for whatever reason the europeans get a different arrangement on stands than the US spec!
    Loving this bike tho!!

I have one of those, actually. In black. I didn't really have problems with the OEM stand, since I had the Cycle Cat before I even picked up the bike. I love it, though. It just looks much better, and it feels considerably lighter. I'm not sure about the Cycle Cat, but my OEM stand weighs in at about a pound and a half (1 lb 7.6oz or 671kg according to my baker's scale).

I had the extra $ to spend, so it wasn't a big deal. If I had it to do again, I'd probably still buy the CC stand.

    this is what i did:

    a) remove side stand.

    b) put in vice so half of stand is showing

c)Twat (carefully) with large hammer so sidestand bends about 10 deg in the middle (this is obviously bent outwards when fitted to bike)

    (d)refit to bike

    (e)sleep soundly

    Taff

Does anyone know what the actual difference is between the US and UK (Euro?) side stands other than the bike sits too upright while on it? Is the stand longer (maybe cutting and rewelding that pad back on is a good fix), the angle of the pivot point on the stand (bending the stand could do it), the angle of the pivot on the bike (bending might stick out to much when up, cutting might not stick out enough when down) or a combo of all?

Both the stand and the mounting bracket are different. On non-US bikes the stand contacts the ground closer to the center line of the tires. This was probably accomplished with a different angle on the bracket. The stand itself probably then needed to be shorter.

In that case even getting the CC stand might not even help or at least not much.
