    Mille/Tuono exhaust conversion issues

I have swapped out the usual stuff (oil cooler and oil tank) and installed a set of Mille headers and the collector pipe. I'm seeing two problems ...

    1) I have the stock Falco swingarm on this bike, and the outlet for the Mille collector is positioned almost underneath the swingarm which means there will be some significant contact of the mid pipe and the right underside of the swinger. I've seen pics of other stock Falco swingarms with the Mille exhaust so I'm sure it can be done, perhaps with a little persuasion. anybody?

    2) I've ordered a Leo Vince slip on (thanks Vlad!), and when I installed the pipe just to check positioning it came out with a drastic upwards angle which looks kind of ridiculous for one thing, but will prevent the use of the stock hanger and footpeg plus make it impossible to put bags on.

The first reaction is that the mid pipe is installed upside down or backwards, but I have confirmed that it's not and would be impossible to do. I've sent the mid pipe back to LV but they're telling me it looks normal, should be ok, can't understand it, etc., even though it's obviously completely different from the Tuono pic on their website.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom.

Thinking about the same mod so very interesting for me.

Looks like you have to rurn the midpipe 90 or 180 degrees but probably you already tried that.
Next what springs to mind is that the rsv collector is mounted wrong?

    Hey Hansie,

Yeah, tried the above thoughts -- no go. And I can't imagine improper positioning of the headers, just no way to do that as they're either on or they're not.

I hope LV decides to come around and just supply the correct part ... maybe they've been hanging around Aprilia too much. Only kidding, of course.

Here's another very nice Falco. Although the owner has installed a Mille swingarm you can still see the difference in the angle of the muffler and shape of the mid pipe.

There was a thread on the Mille forum in recent months about a batch of Leo mid-pipes that were incorrectly made. AF1 knows about it.

are you saying that if you used a mille swingarm that the problem would go away?

Yeah, I believe the first [assumed] problem of the contact between the pipe and the swingarm would go away if a Mille swinger was installed.

On my other Falco I have a Mille swingarm and it's real apparent that the arc in the part creates room for the exhaust. But other people have done it with the stock swingarm so there must be a way.

You are correct. There would be no issue if you had a Mille swinger. To make it work with the stock Falco swinger, you will have to cut and weld the mid pipe to get the clearance.

Actually, from what I can tell, the part that will need to be modded is the trailing end of the collector -- it needs to be brought outboard of the swingarm. But that change alone would still not provide the proper angle for the muffler. The only way to correct that is with a different configuration of mid pipe.

Litre1 did this mod to his Falco. He had to have the collector cut and then re-welded to get out enough for the pipe to clear the swinger. It didn't take much.
