    Efi 1???

    Hey there-
    I have a 01 Futura with a
powercommander and S-tunes on it. for the last few days when i start it, then go to ride, i have a EFI symbol where the clock is, and the number 1. does not seem to affect the bike, but it really bothers me. temps here in NOVA are in the 80's and 90's. can anyone tell me what this means?
    thanks for the help

I think it means someone has left the diagnostic wires connected under the seat by mistake.
I could be wrong, but it is all I can think of.
I would wait for other opinions.
Or..... look under the seat for the grey/ ???? (other colour) wires and disconnect them if they are plugged together.

    Wiring and such...

You may also want to look at the post that talks about EFI issues. It could be caused by either a short or a bad injection relay. It is definitely worth looking into and much easier to do in your garage then on the side of the highway!

Please come back and post your findings, it could help others on the board in the future!

    first update

i checked the wiring situation last night and it all seems to be in order. i disconnected the battery before i began, and when in was done reconnected it. started the bike and everything was fine. am going to make a short trip tomorrow to see if the problem resurfaces. thanks for the advice, and i will update as it progresses.

    Right, lets do this again.....

Firstly, welcome to the board, and I hope it helps you enjoy the bike.

I have just been and read your 5 posts and think I have learned : you picked it up 2nd hand : you don't have the manual : it came with the aftermarket fitments : The number 1 has been there since you got it.
Please correct me if any of that is wrong.

The "1" on the dash indicates the EFI is in diagnostic mode.
The bike is put in diagnostic mode by connecting 2 wires together under the seat next to the battery.
I suspect it has been left there by whoever you got the bike from.

The manual and the parts Fiche are online.

    Manual pages 1 to 43
    Manual pages 43 on
    Parts fiche

Ok, hopefully that will halp you a little with the bike long term.

    Resetting the light
The instructions of what wires to look for , where , colours etc are at the above link.
Have a read at that , go to your bike, split the service wires, ride on !!

    Happily ever after

I've seen that happen when the throttle is cracked open when starting...either on purpose or because it didn't quite spring back all the way 'cause the cables were a little too tight.

    cheap easy fix.

    progress report

Sorry for the delay, but the fiscal year is ending, and i have to work overtime to help Uncle Sam sort out his finances for the year. The bike is second hand, just had the 6K service before i bought it. i rode from Atlanta GA to DC with no problems, no efi light on. then one eve i was in the garage messing around, and i pulled out the tool kit and took a look at everything in the kit. i put the kit back and the next time i rode the bike the efi 1 was where the clock should be. since then i looked i downloaded the owners man. and looked at all the connections. also unhooked the batt and then re hooked it up when i was done. i left the tool kit out from under the seat and keep it in a tank bag now. the efi display has never come back on since then. i think that the tool kit was messing up the power commander, or the wires leading to it. also now i am very careful not to touch the throttle till the bike has run for a few min's. last bike had a carb, and some times wanted a little twist to get started. rode the skyline dr. and did about 400 miles, and no problems. appreciate the advice, and will all know if this surfaces again.
