    Borderline '02 Mille Please Help!

    Hello To All,
Before you start flaming me, I did search and am still needing advice on the Eprom -Map deal.
Heres the dealio, My bike is a new 2002 Mille RSV,but, it was made in January. How do I really know about the Eprom and wire cutting?
I just want to be absolutely sure about what I have in there right now before I move any further on derestricting the bike.
As with all manufacturer's, parts are used even when they say that they went with something new.
How will I know if I have the old chip or the new chip?????

    Bring it,
    Chance.

It doesn't matter what month your bike was built. If it is an 02 model then do not cut the wire.

What chip are you thinking of using? Aprilia, Arrow, FP, etc..

I took my bike to the Factory Pro (bay area) and had a custom chip burned. Yes, it is pricey, around 500.00 but the results are very good. Not only do you get a few more ponies, but it will make the bike run much smoother. The big advantage was no on-off throttle response below 3K rpm. It now will pull cleanly from as low as 2500. Being that you live in Sacto (I'm in Stockton) you might want to consider that option if the funds allow.

    Chip

I talked to the parts guy at Aprilia and he told me to get Aprilia Eprom part #1062002. Cost is $97 from the local dealer here in Sacramento.
For right now I am just wanting to Derestrict sticking with the Stock Can debaffled until I can save up for an afternarket pipe.
I am an avid 4Wheeler so funds get sucked up pretty fast in that Hobby.
Believe me I LOVE THIS BIKE! I recently converted from the "Other Italian Stable" and for the money there is no comparison to the MILLE!
I just want to let it Breathe in the nice California Smog.

    Aprilia EPROM

Was curious about the EPROM you were speaking of for $97...I have never seen a chip that cheap!!!! Is it specifically for a stock Mille that has been derestricted? Please let me know, cause right now, I don't want to pay the $300 for a PCIII or a chip, but i want to derestrict my bike, so if this is an alternative PLEASE let me know. All I have is a Leo Vince slip on and nothing else. Any one else that may have some thoughts feel free also!

Thumbs up Rock N Roll Daddio's

    Well,
Just got back from a quick ride with the new Eprom,Did I mention "Quick" Ride.
    The chip Rocks,Period.
I derestricted the bike, airbox, snorkels, eprom and exhaust-the Baffle did get me pissed off. But after taking it for a spin I had a Huge Grin from ear to ear.
Very smooth on the bottom and the flat spot around 4000-5000 is gone, it just pulls smooth and hard.
Thanks to everyone with the good writeups on deristricting, it went pretty smooth.
    Peace,
    Chance.

The chip we are speaking of is a derestriction chip for $97. If I was going to spend some ching, it would definitely be the PCIII!

It's important to compare apples to apples here. A PCIII would need a custom map to be equal to a custom chip. In the end (custom mapped PC or custom chip) it would end up costing the same. Secondly, I don't care for the splicing wires thing or the space used to secure the PC. Besides, there were no maps available that matched up with my set-up. By the time I would have had a custom map done it would have cost over 500.00. I had a PC on another bike and I wasn't impressed. The chip seemed liked the better option for me. Cleaner install, same result and the same cost.

I'm very pleased with the results and that's really all that matters. It is up to each of us to decide what we prefer. PC vs. chip is the same agruement as we get when discussing airbox, exhaust, tires, etc.

My post is nothing more than my opinion. Go with whatever works for you.

    Cool

Hey, Hows It! Brothers in milleville.
I haven't been able to Dyno my bike yet It is a 2001 RSVR. it came with a Ti can and a Ti chip. afe filter in stock air box. It pulled good at first track day but I could tell it wanted to breathe. I sealed both sides of the ram air tubues at the frame as to not have any leaks. Which allows the system to work as the engineers had designed it. It worked well with the stock air box but still seemed anemic. I called Micah at AF1, He promtly sent me the evo race air box mod, and the evo short velocity stacks..... And the throttle body syncro tool. Took it for a little Rip and to my suprise turning left on to Bell road was in a lean, centered up on the saddle in second, grabbed third, and rolled on to a nice wheelie.... I wasn't trying to do that it just happend......officer... not really I mean the officer part. I notice a much deeper and richer Engine note when crusing and at RPM ... much smoother transition, when reaching Warp 9. I will contribute this if any of you with any miles on your bike it doesnt matter what fuel you use try some Lucas Oils Fuel addittive 1oz per tank. one bottle will last five tanks. I run 76 Nascar 100 unleaded and the Lucas , My bike seems to love it. it cleans and lubes the entire fuel delivery system, And improves fuel economy. Check it out.
