O/T: An addition to the family

So after a trip to the motorcycle shop today my Dad decided he wanted to see the family go all dirt (English- lets sell the aprilia and get dirt bikes) but finally after hours of convincing, my dad decided he'd like to see me get a dual sport bike to go along with the aprilia !!! But the problem is I have no idea what kind of bikes to look at...Any one have any ideas?

Pretty much anything under 750... Insurance gets high above that. I was thinking 250 to 500 range....

Personally I'd hop up onto a 600, not exactly original but oh well. Otherwise, I hear 400's are fairly hard to find in the states, but if you can maybe a vfr400 or similar would be a good bet.
Either that or get a 450 supermoto, drz400 perhaps, not really that fast but should be good fun, if you're feeling crazy how about a wr450?

well what kind of roads do you have
    is traffic bad?

for the city I had a dualsport honda xl250 years ago (to do deliverys) and it was more than enough pep to get around

it all depends on the kind of conditions your going to be riding
it ranges from 100 to 650 cc

the suzuki DR series are very nice or check out honda xr

i would get a nice Enduro machine so you can really have some fun offroad, 250 2-stroke or 400cc 4-stroke so its not to heavy if you fall and easy to controle offroad.
Maybe a Aprilia RX or ETX-350 or something like that to stick with the Aprilia brand?
Aprilia has offroads ranging from 50cc to 1000cc (RX 50 to Caponord 1000) but the reall Offroad macines are between 125cc to 600cc and its your choice but for a dirtbike for fun trips that are not to long i would get a ETX and for the longer trips maybe bike vacation i would get a Tuareg (Paris Dakar) if those bikes are available in the USA second hand.

p.s guys he said Dirtbike/Dualsport Enduro bike, since wen is the RS250 a Dirtbike?

I've never heard of a Dualsport before (what the hell is that?), so i just thought of the sport part, anyway, the one who said vfr would be wrong too.

Dualsport is Enduro, Basicly there Offroad bikes that can go on the road also.
    2 examples.
    ETX-350

(ETX) Tuareg 350, this is basicly the same bike with desert modifications like a bigger fueltank.

Nice detail: Bike was available from 50cc up to 600cc. I had the 50cc version as on the picture (wich i actualy believe to be a picture of mine)

The RXV is high as hell, i had a good look at one at a dealer in Sweden this thursday, i'm a tall guy but i couldn't possibly have gotten up on the thing, makes you wonder how you'd controle the damn thing off road when you can't reach the ground unless you've already lowsided it. the SXV would be better imo, just stick some off road tyres on if you want to go off road. mabye a pegaso trail? well, i'm clueless, my best awnser would be: run around some dealers and get your own oppinon.
