I drive 50 miles a day and average 52 mph.
I don't remember how, if it was told before... but is there a way to tell what software version I'm running with??
There is no way without a tool that comunicates with the ECU on the data bus...Originally Posted by muchacho

Toronto riders - anyone know a dealer that has a gameboy? George from Vaughan had one (I don't know if he still has it).
I hear some of the Vespa stores sell Aprilias, do any of them have the gameboy?
Long time no see......
Here's my experiences with two DiTech's I have had around me for 3 and 2 years, first off is the 02 Starol Racing DiTech that had run some 30.000km on the piston when I changed it this summer and it looked quite nice, could have done some more km's on it without any danger, it has run on Agip 2T City from day 1 and was de-restricted at 500km, it always get 98 octane since here in Sweden 95 octane has 15% ethanol mixed in and that's NO good for a DiTech, spark plug has been Aprilia recomended for Scandinavia NGK CR8EK, software 2.8.0, it's also fitted with 7.0gr rollers, Malossi Fly Clutch, Malossi Special Belt and Malossi Red Sponge filter. Since it has been used as "pit scoot" for our Road Racing team it has been fed some 103octane VP race fuel from time to time otherwise it has been used and abused and NEVER had a hickup. Fitted with Braking wave disc, Malossi organic pads and 130 & 140-60-13 Maxxis tyres this puppy just huuummmms....
The DP Race Tech 03 DiTech is basically a de-restricted 2.8.0 software all stock except a Malossi Kevlar Belt, Malossi Fly Clutch, 6gr rollers (5gr with Jolly pipe), NGK CR8EK & CR9EK (although I feel the 8 works better without gas), Agip 2T City (since it got into my hands at 1000km) and mostly I run it on VP 103 octane on top of that I run a NOS Holley nitrous oxide system that's used quite frequently and this last summer at 10.000km I changed the piston on it since it had lost a bit of compression. I have tested both the stock exuast and a Jolly Moto (we are Jolly Moto distributors in Sweden) DiTech exhaust and feel the stock pipe is quite equal to the Jolly but it's 1000 times quiter and as I often use it around town and have to keep good relations to the local law enforcement the stock pipe is the way to go. This scoot is real nice to drive fitted with Braking wave discs front & rear, Malossi organic brake pads, Malossi RS24/10 rear shock, front fork rebuilt by "Springzz Suspension" and a set of 130 front 140-60-13 Maxxis race compound tyres on an otherwise flat black sleeper....
On both of these we have never seen any oil related problems, no hessitating or sputtering just plain motoring happiness, I change pluggs a couple of times a year, clean & oil the air filter and give them a squirt of STP Injector Cleaner every 6-8 tankfulls.....
Lately here in Sweden there has been a huge problem with the Piaggio motorized 05-06 Factory since some dealers keep on NOT listening to those who know how to do a correct start up, use the right fuels and oils and from that we have figured out that Motul, Castrol, Motorex and other "premium quality" oils are a big NO NO as well as the ethanol mixed 95 octane fuel is also a big NO NO. The dealers that have followed "our" instructions regarding the start up procedure and the use of ONLY Agip City or IP Green Hit oils and ONLY 98 octane have had NO problems with the Aprilia Factory while those who calim to know better have hoards of these with seased bearings, clogged injectors, burnt pluggs & pistons just to mention a few so go figure......

Don't really have any and as usual I say: My rides should be experienced live....

Nothing real exciting, it's just an off the shelf NOS Holley Powersports system, running a T pipe and fuel line just after the fuel pump to the fuel solenoid, the bottle is mounted inside the rear body so it don't wastes the under seat space, the nitrous line is run from the bottle to the nitrous solenoid and from both solenoids hoses run to the Fogger monted just behind the butterfly valve in the intake and slightly under so it's not "in your face". I run quite small jets for gas and just slightly larger for fuel and have not had any problems with pinging or detonation. The system is wired through a hidden switch and when armed the green headlight warning light goes on and then the horn button activates it all, the fuel gauge in the stock panel has been replaced with a fuel pressure gauge since it's verry important to have adequate pressure in the system before you push the GO button or it all goes KABOOM, belive me I have tested that on my Formula. So nothing other than a normal NOS Holley install, I have used this stuff on cars and bikes since the early 80's, was the first here in Stockholm to street race a VW Bug with Porsche 912 motor and NOS, since then I have had kits fitted to Honda cars, Harley bikes and other 2 and 4 wheel applications....

Noop never had it on the dyno since it has been running like clockwork, don't really see the need for it, it can humiliate GTI cars at red lights, pull off at green and at 10kph I push the "horn" and it lifts the front wheel and outruns about anything with 4 wheels and some 2 wheelers up to around 100kph when it tops out and I have a grin from ear to ear....
DP says: Just your average DP Race Tech skunk works ride.....
Look, my bike runs fine.
It is fine for city driving etc. The only major problem I had was on my long trip to Montreal. Keep in mind that I read everything and I used all of your guidelines for oil and for gas.
Scootn'fast's discovery of the emulsification and the solution for it (the condenstion remover) also mentions some conditions when this occurs. Namely, (for me) driving long distances at low speeds/rpms (60km/s) seems to be a real no-no on these scoots and for that reason alone I would install the condensation remover.
Pilota, I am not sure, but it does not sound like you do alot of distance runs on your scoots. I would be interested in knowing your findings on your setup if you did a 400km run.

I'm sorry but I'll be bored stiff running a "moped" for 400km, for that I use my 06 Aprilia 1000R Tuono (now sold since the 07's are out soon)....
Sure sometimes I'll go for a run down to Stockholm (some 70km each way) and I would say I'll have the throttle pegged some 90% of that ride and at those times I have had NO problems with either scoot and for soem reason it's quite fun since the roads are perfectly suited for doing beyween 70 to 100 kph, sometimes I even do some overtaking. But a nice summer night with 140km back & forth and some cruising in the City is just enough what I can take on that machine....
DP says: These things are not really made to do 400km at full throttle....
@Dragster pilota.........since you are a dealer
Are you aware of problems DE retricting the 2,80 or 2,82 software ? (I see you mentioning de-restricted 2,80 software)
Some of the members say 2,80 and/or 2,82 can not be 'done'
I know of problems with the the peugeot 2,82 but not with the aprilia software ................
Do you ??

The 2.8.0 software CAN be de-restricted, the 2.8.2 is NOT an Aprilia software, I know it's been alot of talk about 2.8.2 but when I go in on Aprilia's service to us dealers the latest software to be downloaded IS 2.8.0, as far as I can see it 2.8.2 is a Piaggio software that can be downloaded into a scoot but that software CAN NOT be de-retsricted and the info I have from Aprilia is that they will stick with the 2.8.0 software in their scoots for now....
I know there are pressures from regulating agencies to make mopeds "un-de-restrictable" (is there such a word???) and both Piaggio & Peugeot has accepted that and fitted their injected scoots with software that can't be de-restricted, but as we all know the word impossible is just a challenge to us gearheads.....
DP says: Stay away from 2.8.2, I do.....
I know what you mean... these 50cc things are definately not suited for distance driving. Having said that, I hope you can understand my disapointment when my cheap Yamaha BWS ran trouble free and my expensive and superior Aprilia was not up to the task :-(Originally Posted by Dragster pilota
"Un-de-restrictable" is not a word but it is more concise than "unmodifiable restricted software"Originally Posted by Dragster pilota
BTW, if you are interested in my trip and trouble, have a look.
The trip thread is kinda long, but you can start on page 9.
I would love to hear your thoughts on what you think of the symptoms on the trouble side. Remember that I had read all your posts before leaving on this trip and I had taken care on oils and gas.
You should also read up on the interesting stuff that techrat wants to do with the ECU - it has very strong tuning potential if he can pull it off.
