Factory really P1$$1ng me off!! Help before I kill it!

Well, as most of you know I have been battling with my 04 Factory that I bought on e-bay and Friday I almost rolled it off a overpass I was so mad. I took the bike into work (Norfolk VA) as I was planning on shooting to Delaware right after work to see my kids. I got everything done early and had to shoot to Va beach and pick up a few things and I was off. Well, not on the Aprilia! The whole way to Va beach the bike was chugging. By chugging I mean even holding the throttle constant the bike would buck and jerk. This would happen at 50-80 mph in any gear. By the time I got 3/4 of the way there I could hardly keep the bike on. It would stall (at60mph) and I would have to pull the clutch in and let it back out to restart the bike, then it would be fine for a few minutes and start all over again. I was in the left lane the first time it happened so I tried to accelerate and get over but when I hit the gas the bike just shook and died (almost got me hit by a truck) Then it would buck real hard and almost snatch the grips out of my hand! This went on for the rest of the ride (5 miles) I put the bike away, but I am so upset. My wife wants me to get rid of it before it ends up costing more than its worth. I noticed that it would start happening on about half a tank of gas, once I dill up it goes away for a bit.
    Here is some back ground:
I lost my R1 in Hurricane Katrina. I use the bike a lot so I had to get an immediate replacement. I combed the internet for a "like new Factory" I bought one from Salt Lake City motor sport with 3000 miles on it, like new, showroom condition bla bla bla. The bike arrives an it looks a little tattered but not a big deal, I could handle the clean up. Upon further inspection started noticing all kinds of things that made me think this bike is abused, I made a post about it titled "my factory has more miles that I thought". With that the bike has an evo air box mod and a red filter, which was so caked up I don't know how any air got through. One day, I cleaned the air filter and changed the oil (which was sooo dark!) with some syntec. the bike rode great for a trip down to Delaware and half way back (200 miles) since then after about 20 minutes of riding the chugging starts, and now its unbearable. I ended up having to take the 04 GSXR that I am bike sitting back down to Va since the Ape is half dead. My wife is really getting on me cause I spent so much on the Ape and this GSXR for half the $$ is running great.
Should I try and contact the dealer that sold me the bike? Should I just put some pipes on because my guess is that who ever had it had pipes and the evo mod and took the pipes off right before he traded it in but left the map and air box the way they were. Should I just trailer it to a Aprilia shop and write them a blank check or should I cut my losses and trade it in on a new bike? My friend with a 01 RSVR has not had one issue!!! he has 3 times the mileage as me!
I really need help! My girlfriend freaked out when I told her I was selling April (bikes name) and thinks I should get her to a dealer and get her fixed, why am I paying $10,500 for a bike that’s suppose to be like new and putting it right into a shop? I think that’s bull and from the beginning is one of things I have hated about this bike, I hasn’t run right from day one, I don’t even know what right feels like since I have never had a twin before. I need reliable transportation. I am in the Navy so I don’t make much money so I am trying to figure out what it is before I make a decision.

I just e-mailed the dealership and told them how I feel. We'll see what they say before I contact Aprilia USA. I really feel ripped off!

Since the problem seems to go away when you fill it up, could it be you got a bad tank of gas somewhere that had water in it? Maybe you filled up from a small gas station? If the gas had water in it I think it would try to use the bad gas towards the end of the tank. I might be totally off here but it would only cost a tank full of gas to syphon it out and try new gas??? Just trying to help. Thoughts anyone???

its very frustrating i'm sure, but your bike is not a lemon or junk, it has a problem and needs to go to a dealer for diagnostics, it is not characteristic of the bike or brand, but your bike has a part that is not working or not working correctly and causing your problem, and to boot sounds like it is driving you crazy, do yourself a favor and drop it off at an aprilia dealer. calling the dealer you bought it from won't do you any good unless your taking it to them for repairs

posting on a forum can be helpful, but in your case everyone including yourself is only second guessing what a problem can be, take the bike in for repairs. you will like the bike when it runs like it should and even if you still don't like it. you can always sell it, but you can't sell a bike chugging and stalling, it has to be looked at anyway

If you bought it from a dealer and they couldn't fix it...do a little reasearch and take it to a good dealer who can actually fix the problem.

If the problem happens after riding awhile, open the gas cap. If you hear a whoosh sound, the breather tube from the tank is pinched. Lift the tank and check/reroute it slightly and it will be fine.

Have you checked your battery cables?

I had one come loose on my Triumph and would cause similar symptoms. I thought "what the hell is going on" and then it ocurred to me, pulled the seat and voila, the cable was loose.

    Just an idea.

There could also be some garbage in the tank blocking the fuel line or pump. Water could be the problem but not after a few more times of filling it up. Sorry to hear that your having problems as well. Good luck with your bike

Mine does this, I think the whoosh sound is normal if you have the evap system still in place.
For my money it doesn't get any better than when he sings, "When a man loves a woman". I celebrate his entire catalog.

OK, if you hear a BIG woosh, with a significant volume of air rushing in - it could be a blocked vent hose. That is very common on many bikes if you close the tank without being careful.

You may run into this if the pollution control vaccum lines were changed or capped off.

I also had one of the three, one-way valves in the system that was miss-labled from the manufacturer and was in backwards to the flow that caused this exact problem.

That in turn, also caused a rupture in the fuel pump assy in the tank that caused stalling above 6,000 RPM after 1.5 hours of riding.

In the end, there is a good chance your problem could be fixed in 20 minutes at home by lifting up your tank and looking at the vent line.

Ckruzel, G-loc, Norcal Factory, Bigmille and the rest of you guys: Thanks for the advice, I am pissed off. I don't make that much money and I wouldn't even have an Aprilia if it weren’t for the insurance claim on my R1 being so generous. I found a dealer about 45 minutes away and when I get back from being out to sea I am going to bring it in. I might have pinched a line or something, the problem started right after the oil change and air filter cleaning. I just can’t afford for a dealer to take me to the bank when I just bought the thing! Even if this problem is fixed by me I think a trip to dealer is inevitable since I haven’t been happy from day one. I wrote the dealer I bought it from hopoeing for some sort of compensation. He sold me a bike as stock that wasn't stock.
As far as “do you have a wife AND girlfriend.............................” Did I mention I’m in the Navy?

the plastic hose on the fuel pump (inside the tank) has either split or popped off
