    Deciphering 2000.5 vs 2001

Is there any easy way to tell if my Mille is a 2001 with the bigger valves, etc. as opposed to the older 2000? Is it just VIN number?

    Thanks.

The bigger valves cam with the '02 and newer here in the states. The new body came in '01.

The 00.5 and older does not have the deflectors on the front fairing either as a quick visual.

Thier was a thread on here a couple of weeks ago about VIN and build dates, from memory " the number in front of the letter "S" in your VIN dictates the year it was made.
I have'nt checked this out yet on mine.

Yup, the US got the new body style, but not the updated engine in 2001. Sucks, but the US market barely knew what an Aprilia was back then so they were probably just getting rid of the leftover stuff from their inventory...

Any chance that *some* updated engines snuck in with the '01 US run?

    My VIN is very low...S000027...

Is there any easy way to identify the newer engine by looking at the engine itself?

CarlosT, here the link to the thread about VIN's

    http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...&highlight=VIN

However saying that I got my bike in Apr 99 and the didgits before the "S" is a ZD-----00XS1----- So how you get the year of manufacture from that is beyond me? But as I'm the only person ever to own this bike since it came from the factory makes it easier for me.
