Motorcycle Trousers that don't look like motorcycle trousers?

Strange I know - basically I am looking for some trousers that have some protection but when I jump off the bike and stow my helmet, gloves and jacket in the luggage, a client can't really tell I've got off a bike (except for the obvious helmet hair and need for a warming drink) - some are still bike-ist and look down their nose at you, even though you've got there quicker than anyone else.

I've succeeded with boots but not trousers. Anyone using anything that you wear next to skin that don't look too much like Robocop yet protect you from mild bad weather and are more protective than jeans?

    Hi Paul,

The first thing that comes to mind is a garment called Draggin jeans. They look like a regular pair of denim jeans with impact protection where needed. I've seen these jeans on the net and by looking at the picture the protection looks subtle.
    Hope this helps.

    cheers,Ken

I have the same problem Paul .

I often use the bike to visit customers especially in summer when the Emmet infestation occurs down here . Its about the only time I use my top box so that i can hide my jacket and helmet . I usually just wear normal trousers and boots . I think Hein garrick also have a version of those Kevlar reinforced jeans , probably cool in the summer also .
My wife has a pair of thier suede leather jeans with the thin rubber Hiprotec padding in the knees . They look pretty much like ordinary black jeans .

I use Draggin' Jeans. They are comfortable and being lined with knitted Kevlar they are very abrasion resistant. What they don't provide is impact resistance, so I also wear some shin/knee protectors that I got from Hein Gericke. They are very comfortable and in a get-off in Belgium last year they took the car/leg and ground/leg impacts, leaving me without a scratch. The Draggin' Jeans are also surprisingly warm. Combined with some Hogg All-Weather boots from Alt Berg, I'm pretty well sorted with foot/leg wear.

BMW has some nice riding pants that don't look like riding pants (khaki's) that I've seen.

Another approach is to just get a topbox and an Aerostitch Roadcrafter one piece suit. Then you just wear your office clothes underneath.

Ah, but we don't wear office clothes any more, everything is casual these days. Plus I don't want to carry shoes or end up hopping round a car park trying to get changed. But thanks for the suggestion

    Airostitch suit .

I now know what you mean . I had never seen one here before the other day .
I was having a tyre fitted and a guy walked in in his suit and tie etc paid his bill and walked out to a VFR where he donned an aerostitch suit in a few minutes . He said he had got it in the states , not available here but it looked fantastic for cold weather and getting into quik .

They are great - they are the ultimate allround motorcycle outfit, not cheap but over the long haul they are a bargain. My roadcrafter is 6 years old, with 55,000 miles on it and it is still in great shape. Ive worn it every day for commuting for the past 6 years. It gets worn for rain or shine 28 degrees to over 100F (thats -2 to about +40C) I wash it in the washing machine every 5000 miles. You dont need any other gear no matter what the season.

They are only available mailorder so it doesnt really matter if youre i the UK or not.

You can read reviews on different gear and how well it holds up here...

What the hell is a trouser? Is that a fish of some sort?

I have Draggin jeans. I also have BMW Summer Trousers (armoured combat-style trousers) and Hood combats (kevlar lined).

Hood are nasty - the kevlar is in a plasticy, sweaty sheet so they're not comfortable.

Draggin are exceedingly comfortable as the kevlar's more towel-like. A mate fell off in his at about 20mph and they wen't through at the knee though.

The BMW ones are in between the two for comfort but feel like they'd be the best in an accident as they have hard knee armour. They zip off half way down and turn into shorts too.

I think Draggin Jeans or any Jeans are a bit like seatbelts on Airplanes. Sure they make you feel a better safer but do you really think they are going to help much in a crash? I know if you talk to any of the Harley guys theyll all say Jeans are fine, bit I was one of those little kids who perpetually had holes in the knees of my jeans from even one day on the school playground, so I never really understood their use on Motorcycles. I mean if you fall off at 70mph, regular jeans will last for the first 10 of the 200 yards you slide down the road, Draggin Jeans might last 20, but the rest you are going to be abrading skin and bone. If you want to be safe wear proper motorcycle clothes that will last the whole 200 - that means leathers or nylon ballistics. If you dont care about it enough to do that then why bother wearing the gear at all - I think youre just fooling yourself with those draggin jeans and the above post about the 20mph fall would concur. BTW Aerostitch stuff is gotetex breathable and they are fine for crashes to 100mph.
