    V(Varadero)UK2005 Get together (1st)

Thought you would like to see the meeting in the UK of the web based Honda Varadero UK get together. About thirty bikes in all for the 1st one which was held as Eskdale in Cumbria during rainy April. Good crowd of people and well organised. Did "Hardknot Pass" in the rain all thirty off us.
Is there anything like this organised in UK for the Caponord?

Why's that ? My dealer mainly does Honda and if comparing the Varadero to the Capo, he chooses the last one. Varadero is a boring bike and the older models are only good for riding from one fuel station to the next...
Parts are expensive too, so I'll stick to the Capo.

I never so too many ugly bikes in one pic only!!!!!
To like this bike you need to really LOVE Honda.

Um, in another thread, I babbled on about how Honda doesn't have a dog in this fight (against the Capo/GS/V-Strom/UgliStrada), but it looks like that do. With all the moto stuff I read, I'm amazed I've never even heard of this machine.

That said, It's another small-wheeled, non-spoked V-Strom-alike. No thanks anyhow.

Me: How come they don't sell these bikes in America?
My Norwegian cousin: Because of your suing system.
Me: Ah, I see. You know, we used to have a "legal system" before this.

That's why the Africa Twin isn't on the market any more (at least not in Europe) as it is in the same league (more or less) than the Varadero.
And indeed : this machine is a lookalike of our Capo, very much so. V-twin coming from the VTR Firestorm, huge and with lots of accessories for touring.

Probably Honda USA didn't believe they could sell enough of these.

What, no Varadero's in America!! Your havin a laugh aint ya. It looks like here in old Blighty and Europe we have the pick of them all then. So far as I know there isnt a Super Trailie on the Market that we can't get our hands on or at least see, we've had em all. There a bloody good reason for me to lean towards the Capo and thats the weight, its a whole 30 KILO'S lighter!!
I got a right slagging on VaraderoUK when I asked if they minded Capo's coming along to their bash next September. F..K me, you'd thought I was from another planet!!. I've got a sneaky suspicion that they might fear getting shown up cos their not to hot on GS's either. There's a few hipocrites on the site as some of them have gone out and bought themselves KTM's, that says a lot for the dero they own as well.

    Jang,
Although I intend to buy a capo next year just to put you right on one little point, the dero came first in 1999, Capo did'nt arrive till 01. I need to get a Capo before Aprilia do the same stupid thing that Honda did with the dero in its third phase, thats the current model, they stuch the thirty kilo's on.
They did'nt make it any better though, I've had two recalls, numerous parts replaced under warranty including corroded fork stanchions, and I wasn't th only one locally. Now the bloody things out of warranty I've got a coolant leak and a blowin down pipe off the back cylinder. I had'nt owned a Honda for thirty years and look what I get, a pig in a poke. Its not that bad really to tell you the truth it just could be a whole lot better if the people woh designed it thought about it first, Just like Aprilia did and, unfortunatey BM .

30 Varaderos in one place? Did it dent the island

When I first heard rumors of the Varadero I was really excited. But I was disappointed with what hit the market and am glad it didn't come to the US as I think it would not have sold. I'm sure it has all the usual Honda goodness, but it just doesn't do anything for me.

Honda hasn't built a bike since the 1993 CBR900RR (which made my gums sweat!) or the up to 1998 VFR that I'd consider buying.

I happen to have such a VFR. Really a nice bike. Extremely reliable and a very nice engine. Never thought I'd need more than 750 cc.
But when it comes down to comfort, the Capo wins hands down.

I have yet to find anyone who was pleased with it when it hit the market. Everyone was expecting a "super" Africa Twin but ended up with something far from it. Still waiting for an Africa Twin replacement from someone, I reckon the KTM 950/990 Adventure is the closest thing to an updated A/T at the moment but it's still not quite there.

Actually, I've always thought the Capo is pretty close to a current generation AT; which is one of the reasons I bought it. Just as big & heavy, just as comfortable, probably faster and better handling on road, and (for most folks) just as reliable. I don't have any direct riding comparison but suspect that based on specifications and size, they can go the same places- and you need to be somewhat skilled for high pace rough stuff or real slow technical stuff.

Geez, I had to get this back to Capos somehow

Ridden most Supertrailies apart from the most recent capo's with the smaller fairing and indicators on stalks. Unfortunately I'll have to go to the UK to try one out and get the best deal. Theres a lot of "diehard" Dero riders out there that will argue with you about its abilities and to someone who has never done anything more than a dirty country lane, hardknott pass was a real challenge, and that says something for the bike. Still, managed to keep it upright which is more than some did with supposedly more experience. I have to add that i was expecting a bigger up to date version of the A/T. Pretty much still waiting for it too. When Yamaha discontinued the Super Tenere (XTZ750) everone was expecting something between it and the TDM but it never happened, had both of those as well.
Never the less, still looking forward to next year and the acquisition of a Capo.
