    Triumph Daytona 675. First test

BIKE magazine in the UK has just released first riding impressions of Triumphs new triple cylinder 600 class sportsbike and if they are to be believed it's awesome.

Considerably smaller than the inline 4 competition it's also considrably faster. And the handling is claimed to be a step up from anything on the market today. A ZX6R and a CBR600RR that were tested at the same time were left struggling by the new british challenger.

It seem like this bike is certainly going to be worth a test ride.

    Rule Britannia?

It wouldn't be the first time a Brit mag waved the Union Jack and broke out tea and biscuits after an "exclusive" test of a new Triumph.

It may be that good, but I'll take more convincing.

The limey rags are the most biased for their bikes and their riders both.

You bet they are, and that didn't start yesterday. I remember reading a brit mag comparison test circa 1972 between the CB750,the Z1, and a Royal Enfield Interceptor. The Enfield was 20 years past it's prime, and not a great bike when it was first designed. Guess who won?

Didn't they say the same about the TT600.When people bought them they found they wouldn't run properly at low speeds and it took Triumph 2 years to sort it out.

Every road test in the brit comic MCN will tell you this is the best bike ever made (untill next weeks road test).

The new Tuono will nodoubt be the best bike ever made etc. etc.

Hope the 675 is good though because my R.E.Interceptor needs replacing!

hell guys, don't shoot the messenger

The brit mags were almost universal in their criticism of the TT600. With the Daytona 600 it was much the same. Great bike with a terrible engine.

The Daytona 650 was a bit better, but only TWO magazine considered it the king of it's class.

I'l personally want to see a few more tests before I'm convinced. But reading this first test in it's entireity it sounds like a damn impressive bike.

IMHO, except for MCN, the Brit mags DO trash the Triumphs on a regular basis. I subscribed to 3 of them for years and for the most part, they are without a doubt FAR superior to the US mass-market mags (i.e., any US bike mag OTHER THAN Roadracing World).

The largest mags are usually overtly friendly to their own national manufacturers, due to advertising revenue and special treatment with regards to national manufacturer pre-release news.

That's also the case with BMW and "Motorrad", the largest German bike mag (and the largest selling bike brand over here). Other than the frequent weekly BMW brown-nosing, it's a very good magazine.

However, the Falco won against the BMW R1100S in a comparative test back in 1999 (Duc ST, Honda VTR, BMW R1100S, Falco, Suzi TL 1k) - a loosing Beamer was a first with Motorrad, tells you how good our Aprilia actually is!
