I just did this mod in advance of any problems.
Soldered the Brown and White connectors and installed xtra wires directly to the battery.
    14.26V at idle and 14.15V at 4k.
Only got to find the connector from the stator between the cilinders sometime to solder those wires.
    Happy so far......

Done mine in advance, didn't have troubles so far only not very high voltage.
    13.7 at idle and 13.1 at 4k.
So I soldered the Brown and White connectors, could just pull the wires out on the Brown ones if I wanted to, so that explaines the bad connection.
Also connected the rectifier directly to the battery.
Readings now are 14.27 at idle and 14.15 at 4k.
Got to search for the connector from the stator and solder that one to finish it of......

Can anyone let me in on the secret of getting the female connectors out of the block? I managed to get the spades out (male), but there has to be a technique to getting the female out which I haven't developed, I couldn't for the life of me get them out. Can someone explain or pop a short video on Youtube showing the correct method, please?

I know I'm very behind with this mod, possibly the only Falco still completely original and trouble free?

Just read back through this thread and noticed a link to a "how-to" which helped someone else with the same issue as me, so I'll take a look there.

Here we are another twelve months beyond and I'm in the same boat, no mod and running fine. Maybe the factory had an audit when our bikes were being assembled, so they did a better job

ive had mine for 3 years now i think and no wiring mod, ive had the stock starter relay go bad. Switched to one of those 150a ones. But otherwise regularly charge the battery and take care in starting scenarios as in being careful on how much strain i put on the starter.
Seems to work, also i use the lithium battery from shorai which has great CCA when its charged up.
