Removing Oil Injection, Running Hotter Plugs

Not quite riding the RS like it needs to be ridden yet, so I ended up fouling the plugs at my last track day. Some folks there recommended that I remove the oil injection and start premixing so I could run a little richer mix. Anyone give me a rough walk-through of what to expect during and after the process?

Also, I was thinking that running a little hotter plugs would help a bit, too. Any thoughts?

I would check your jetting before making any changes. My first experience with a 2 stroke with My RS. This is my second season and I have never fouled a plug. Stock jetting, heat range, and still use injector.

You may want to do some thread searches on the pump removal. If it ain't broke don't fix it kind of thing in my opinion.
Bless those of us that push your creation to it's limit.

How will running a little richer premix than your injector mix keep you from fouling plugs?

Find the root cause of your problem first. I don't know much about the injector system but adjust the pump as per the manual to include testing the volume it puts out to make sure it's working correctly.

I ride my RS on the road and can lug it in traffic without fouling the plugs. I would have to agree with Motopix. I would be looking at other things first. Jetting, oil pump etc. In my opinion it wont make much difference if you remove the oil pump or not. Also correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't running it richer just make it foul plugs faster?

    Are you running Shell Optimax?

Optimax fowl my plugs within 30km of riding. This was an expensive leason.
I run every other brand of premium and had not problem since.

Read somewhere that Optimax is designed for fuel injected system rather than carbie.?? Can anyone confirm this?

If you are doing trackdays, then I would assume you would run stock or even colder plugs due to the fact that you will be red lining it more often than when you are riding on the streets.

Yes, mistake in wording -- I meant to say "leaner" premix, I assume. Less oil, more gas at any rate. ;]

I will look into the jetting -- any recommended resources?

On oil, I'm running Motul 600.

My RS is the Cup series, track only. Other than riding around the parking lot at my complex, she's only run on the track. I don't fully understand why I'm having so much trouble with this, because I can ride around the complex at >30mph, stop-and-go for half an hour or so, but can't make it more than three laps around the track between high Rs in 3rd gear.

    Any ideas?
