True...true. It would.
But seriously, they leave the city and head out to some really nice, yet hilly countryside. I still might venture out, but not sure.
just be certain to get a head start![]()
If your dealer is sending the cartridge back to Atlanta to get updated to 2.8, then I would find another dealer! And that's the honest truth right there!
That cartridge is updated via serial cable from your PC... They can update it to 2.8 right there in their shop, or on ANY PC out there...
They are fooking with you now, and I wouldn't take that crap...

almost makes me want to start up my own aprilia support.shop here.![]()
Yeah, I figured as such. What is happening is that they are not computer literate at all so I am sure that Aprilia just suggested they send it to them and they woudl do it.
I really can't suggest anything to them due to the fact that their egos are bigger than their brains so what can I do? The next closest dealer is two hours away. They will never let me come in and consult or be on the other end of the phone while Aprilia sends them the code. Which by the way I woudl love a copy of to show these guys how lame are being. Can anyone send me a copy (beer money will be provided)?
I will now pose this question to the whole forum:
Once this "update", flash, de-restrict...whatever we are calling it...is done, will I ever have to have something like this done again? Because if this is something we will have do every year or so, or when someone does a mod then I really think we should all chip in and buy a Gameboy cart/unit. I feel pretty confindant we can come up with a plan to have someone be the "gatekeeper" and then we pass this around like a bong at a Gratefull Dead concert.
I am up for anything you guys come up with. Anything I can take back to the dealer and say "check this shit out"...anything to get the scoot de-restricted quicker and not having to worry about the "yahoos" who are about to do it and God knows if they do it right...
Kris
Thank you...question answered.
Time to make some more phone calls and see if the other dealer can do something...as a back-up.
Why don't all Aprilia dealers in the US read this forum???
Seems like a no-brainer to me...
I know that *MY* tech reads both this AND the Mototek forum, and asks questions if he doesn't know the answer...
He is very good, but a tad bit far away for me to take my scoot up there... But if it's ever in need of some TLC and I can't make it work, I know it's in good hands... I would never hesitate leaving my scoot with him...
I wish everyone here could say the same...

I kind of like the 'bong' idea! Granted, evrybody probably just needs it once, but it would be a nice way to support fellow owners and newbies that can't get any help locally.Originally Posted by kriden

I'd imagine somewhere around the $300 mark unless you can find one on eBay...
And I have NEVER seen one on eBay... Just for that info...

Yeah, you think more TECHS would read this forum (or any).
I was in sales awhile ago, and it seemed to me it was just common sense that I had and wanted to learn everything about the product(s) I was selling. Let’s face it, bike dealerships are not Harrods or Wal-Mart. There are lots of slow periods where any of the sales, parts, or even service guys could hop on the new item in the showroom, take it for a quick spin or at least go over it and spend their free time learning about it. The SR-50 Factories were in the showroom for two weeks before I got there. Yet none of them were even set up for a test ride. My dealer got three of them in. Two were on the showroom and the third was in a second building separate from the main showroom.
Well it is a slow day at the hospital so I figured I'd make some calls. There are six dealers in my state (Pennsylvania) and about three within 100 miles.
All very nice people but not a one had the updated flash software. Only two that I called dealt with Aprilia scooters.
I am just lucky to have my dealer very close to me (within 8 miles). They are one of the largest Aprilia dealers (in terms of sales) in the US...or so I read, but that doesn't mean crap if the service department is clueless. I have met the owner several times so he knows who I am, so I’ll just have to be patient and hopeful that they are able to take care of this and any issues in the future.
But yes, I still feel the “bong” support idea is good. $300 bucks is high but split...what 6 ways...maybe more...I don't know, it could be worth it. With you guys getting the software and the group owning its own cart/cable, how great would that be? And who knows, could we then begin to reverse engineer the thing and get to the code for even more coolness? We could then help people like OZ better. Just a thought, but if anything ever was decided on in regards to something like that, make it known that I for one would love to participate.
I hate to turn this into a bitch fest, especially when my problems are nothing compared to OZ who HAD the de-restriction done and it was no different. So I will try to refrain from my petty gripes. Sorry to sound like a dumb, whining, slow white bunny.

Hmmm, so 99% of the dealers are crap..how can Aprilia live with that![]()
In all fairness I have to say that the chief mechanic over at my dealer seems to know the ECU bit well. The guys dealing with parts however, jeeezzzeThis is especially true at the importers cause these dudes knows absolutely nada

Ignorance is curable, Stupidity is for life.
Lucky for us in the US, Jay over at Mototek is a fine man and will be more than happy to send parts anywhere.
If he doesn't have them, he can get em...
My dealer is really good as well, and can get just about anything...

They love the DiTech at that shop, and race one in US Scooter Racing circuits.

Hi
Wonder why aprilia choose the gameboy in the first place?![]()
Why not a program for the world-spread pc?
As far as i know, the cartridge contains the software necessary to
communicate with the ECU.
Software or data for the ECU settings comes from a pc file, this can apparently be downloaded to the gameboy cartridge.Dont know how,but a guess is via the seriel conn.
Theres a lot of gameboy emulators on the net,but without the software from
the cartrigde,its no use.
Isnt there any programming nerds in the forum?
I say:ditechs is the one for the hitech
The bong idea does sounds good though
