    Oil Changes Frequency

    Gentlemen:

Pretty basic question, but I couldn't find a prior thread on the subject. What is the consensus regarding mileage intervals? Over the last few years I've been extending the frequency from 3k to 6k per BMW's recommendation (for my K.

OTOH, The Aprilia dealer is suggesting 2.5k for my Tuono. No track days.

It's a tired subject, pardon my asking.

Dont scrimp on the bikes blood,
good quality semi-synth oil (NOT FULL SYNTH) changed at least as often as the book says ie. every 5k miles (I personally half that - at least)
The Tuono isnt a sensible bike (thats why I love it), so I wouldnt expect it to be economical in any way.

Why not fully synthetic I changed to Mobil 1 Red Cap. Seems to run fine with it is there a concern for clutch slippage

    Oil Changes

Obviously the pattern of use affects the interval. Alot of short hops around town, brief commutes, et cetera should mean more frequent oil changes. The easiest life for an oil would be extended road rides at moderate rpms.

Unless you really really stress an engine, (ie. racing) Fully synth can have an adverse effect, often ending up with reduced performance due to an inadequately bedded in engine, & excessive oil consumption,

If you like boasting to mates that you run the most expensive oil on the planet then pose away, if it makes you happy,
Back on planet Earth, why waste your money

WTF is a Quart, I remember my Grandad telling me about them I think & I'm 44
its basically a Litre innit ? or is a Yankee quart different just like the Gallon ?

So you can save a whole dollar by getting non branded stuff

Maybe you need to go back and ask your Grandad about oil too. Syn has no adverse effect on the Aprilia eng. I have been using full syn with great results. Redline and Mobil 1, not to expensive and I change the oil every 4K miles (you do know what miles are?).

OK I gave sound advice, what you choose to do with it is up to you,

Last word, if someone offered to help myself to whatever oil you like for free, I would still choose semi synth.

To each his own, but when I put full synth in my Falco the clutch slipped like crazy. This was at ~6k miles of easy riding. Put semi-synth back in and it was fine.

Could be coincidence, but I'm not using full synth anymore. Its been beat to death and I'm not trying to argue I just wanted to point out that different people have had different experiences.

This stuff pumps around the heart of my Tuono

Silkolene Comp 4, 10W-40, "Electrosyntec Technology-synthetic ester based 4 stroke engine oil for all high performance motorcycles"

What does 'synthetic ester based' mean

There are oils out there that state do not use with wet clutches. Some of the 4 st Motil. This stuff is for Ducati's with dry clutches.
And yes this has been beat to death. Just use what you like.
