    Slipping Clutch, amongst other things....

Hi all, got on the forum to see its been busy today! Must be because summers coming.

Anyway, about the title of this thread.
From the last thread i made youll know i replaced my gearbox oil with some stuff that the dealers always use, only for it to cause the clutch to slip like an absolute bastard as soon as i give it some welly. It was fine till the oil was replaced. The oil isnt 75w-40, but it is semi-synth. NOT fully synth. So i was wondering how much of the clutch slipping is due to the oil (10-40 as reccomended) and how much is due to the clutch being on the way out.
The bikes got 19,300km on it now. Not ridden too agressivly apart from the occasional dispatching of boy racer.
So i need advice on that, and how hard clutch plates are to replace. Id imagine the engines coming out for that? i havent got a clue.

Second is the price of a new top end. Priller dealers want £150 for piston, rings and gudgeon pin. Is that ok?
Im aquainted with how to do most of this stuff, but not with prices.

Oh, and while people are reading this, craig, name your price for a decent chain and sprockets?!

    thank fook for student loans!

    cheers lads.
    matt

i changed my clutch on my rs 50, and i would imagine it was similar to that, with the gearbox cover on the left hand side of the engine.
Also £150 is OTT for that stuff, try here for £95, or even £85 for a cheaper set!

PS. after yesterday i thought you guys might like to know that the rotax powervalve extractor is £13 from an aprilia dealer. Im considering it after everyone keeps breaking their blades!

i didnt realise there was a special service tool for removing the powervalve, and at 30 quid sounds spot on (if it works) clutch shouldnt be too difficult, pretty straight forward, i think neal (rossirep) has wrote a write up on 125ccsb but cant remember. and yeh about 80 quid is a decent price for a piston kit, but youll need a gasket set too.
I was gonna post a big, huge, fuckoff pic of my bike here to piss everyone off but i felt sorry for the poor little 56kers, :P

fuck it, it was fine till i replaced the oil. Looks like im not trusting dealer any more for oil! Ill replace it when i get a spare minute, any bets my clutch will magically be fine again!

nick: yeah theres a special tool, it looks very simple though. Something like a plate attatched to the blade, with 2 screws. From what i make of it (which isnt much as i havent seen one) you attach the plate to the blade, then slowly turn the screws to apply a strong but even force to the blade, pulling it out. If it works ill be dead happy, should have one within a week or 2.

*EDIT* any ideas on how badly this oil is affected my clutch then? It was absolutely fine before, so it looks like its just the oil. Its probably an indication of the clutch needed replacement eventually though. Is there a wear indicator of any sort does anyone know?

only wear indicator i know of is high rpm and slow acceleration/speed lol

it is possible that after the oils replaced it will be fine if youve put the wrong oil in, for instance when bike engines (4t) use car oil, it can cause the clutch to slip due to the different lubricating properties between car and bike oil, just change it with silkolene light gear oil and see what happens.
