Castrol R4 5-40 synthetic has been what I have been using. After 24,000 miles, it continues to be my oil of choice for my 2000 Pegaso.

I'd recommend synthetic 4stroke motorcycle oil..notice it's has to be for motorcycle as car sythetics have stuff in that will make your clutch misbehave. Sythetics remain more stable and are able to hold more gunk that normal dinasaur oils.

have a read of this and see if this helps![]()
Mobile 1 car synthetic for 30,000 miles (48,000km). with no problems. No clutch slippage. Do not use the "energy conserving" formula. I read that they have an ingrediant that causes the clutch problems.
My question is how often do you change oil. I do about every 5-6,000 miles. I see classified ads all the time bragging "new motul (or some other very expensive motorcycle synthetic) every 2,000 miles" I write and ask for thier old oil being that it is just barely broken down.
Last year I read a an oil test report on the net. THey used Mobile 1 in a camaro. It went like 18,000 miles before the oil really worried them. Last I read they were going to test Amsoil. I need to find that report again.

I use the logic of oil changes as "how much is the oil" and "how much is my engine worth"...I always change at the recommended intervals indepandent of oil type. Its interesting to note that synthetics "can" have the extended service intervals but I just change it anyway.
I agree on the "how much is oil" thinking. But a few years ago I thought of something else.
What kind of impact does draining perfectly good oil have on the enviroment. I know most of it get recycled.
The old belief that the oil change places sell, every three thousand miles, when 5-8000 miles is fine and recommended byt the manufacturers is not helping our enviroment or our dependency on oil imports. I bet millions of gallons of motor oil get changed every year well before it is needed. WHat happens to all that oil?
I wonder
Old oil, if it is given to a recycler(and if the oil change is done by a registered mechanical centre who charge you a fee called "oil disposal") is taken back to the refinery ,in Australia that is done in Melbourne,is refined and appears back in your motorcycle shop ready to buy again. Back in the "old days" it would have been used in road dust prevention by councils or mostly end up in rubbish dumps but thankfully we are more aware of the problems of waste oil. You may also want to ponder over how do large ocean liners etc that deal in hundreds of gallons in their engines ever do a oil change..it may interest you that they probably never do oil changes, they rely on extreme oil filtration and extensive oil anyalising to ensure that the oil remains a active lubrication device, unfortunately for us,its cheaper to change the oil.![]()
I plan to use Motul, semi-synthetic, which I use in all of my bikes.
Now, there are as many opinions about motorcycle oil as there are motorcyclists, but I read that a semi-synthetic is MUCH better than a dino oil and almost as good as a full synthetic, and priced mid-way between the dino and full synthetic.
